Thai Smile Airways withdraws from Don Mueang

Featured Replies

From Jan 16, 2017 on Thai Smile will not fly to/from Don Mueang.

All activity concentrated at Suvarnabhumi.

Thai Smile will then do seven flights to/from Phuket, eight flights to/from Khon Kaen and nine to/from Chiang Mai among others.

I like eight flights per day from Khon Kaen to Suv. I never cared much to fly to Don Mueang.

The article is in todays online edition of the Bangkok Post which does not allow to be linked in Thaivisa.

Another source in Thai language found.

Given the extra costs, it's surprising that they maintained the two-airport policy as long as they did. I doubt if a purely privately held airline would have.

Considering they are basically an arm of Thai Airways and would derive much of their business from connecting flights, I'm surprised they bothered moving from BKK to begin with.

I thought at the time, when the low cost carriers got moved to DM, that there might be an element of wanting to show even-handedness in not letting Thai Smile operate completely out of Swampy. But that's obviously not considered a factor any more. DM is bustling in it's own right nowadays anyway.

if there was a quick - easy way between the 2 airports it might have worked better ,

But what a headache if your connecting flight was at the other airport ,
