BANGKOK, 26 December 2016 (NNT) - The commissioner of the Immigration Bureau has called for strict monitoring of people traveling in and out of the country during New Year festivities, while preliminary reports reveal no sign of violence perpetration.

Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau Pol Lt Gen Natathorn Prausoonthorn revealed that his agency has implemented stringent policies in screening people traveling in and out of the country during this time of year. He said that the screening process is in accordance to international standards. In addition, agents will be deployed out of uniform to conduct random checks.

He revealed that the system in place will automatically identify those who have a warrant against them or are on the bureau’s blacklist. His agency has also incorporated bio-metric identification technology into its screening process.

Pol Lt Gen Natathorn added that his agency has collaborated with the army as well as intelligence agencies to monitor all potential terrorist threats, while preliminary reports revealed no sign of malicious plots.

Note to terrorists - wait for a few weeks before coming to Thailand

"agents will be deployed out of uniform to conduct random checks".  If this doesn't open the door to every scammer in the country, I don't know what else could...This is quite unnerving.................Fake cops....?

Rest easily then.   1514120.gif

I believe a terrorist got in via the border not long ago for an 18k Baht bribe.  Perhaps reduce corruption.  Thailand's laws seem to be OK.

What ever happened to those Erawan scumbags? Did the case go to court yet? Anyone convicted? Seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors now..

International standards during New Years festivities? Why not the entire Year? Bio-metric technology? What does that include? DNA? Fingerprint? Iris scan? Face recognition? I doubt they implemented something of this...

" while preliminary reports revealed no sign of malicious plots."

Yes, it does sound like a festival for con men across the country, as well as, empowering civil servants to harass anyone they choose. How much crime do frangs and non Thais contribute to this xenophobic utopia ?  Do the numbers warrant extra man power and trashing the country's reputation ?

facial recognition is implemented much more than we can imagine!

I wonder if that means cavity searchers.  Brings a new meaning to stuffing the Christmas turkey.

But nothing a little cash cannot resolve

I flew in and out of BKK Suvarnabhumi earlier this month on an international trip.

Didn't notice anything different on the Thai end either going or returning. And I saw no evidence of any biometric identification being used.

It wasn't that long ago that BKK used to be a favored site for organized terrorist conferences (e.g., Bin Laden and KSM)...

Thailand  is  still  an Asian  country  where  many  people  of  many  countries  come

for business,  as  well  as a  lot  of  R and  R.  People  from  all groups good  and bad

come  to Thailand.  Good  luck  to  the Immigration.Department, because  if  they

can  catch  a  bad  guy or  even  a  terrorist  ,  that  would  be  success.

Geezer

Yeap. and it's not like it never happens.

Some nooottties will now delay their departure ???

I woner if they will be able to detect if a certain (former) Abbott passes through....on his way OUT!

All these extra security measures at the airports and in the cities by army and police personnel may be considered necessary to keep everybody safe", but they certainlly do not make tourists feel more comfortable.

Actually I used an acid dip. Not as painful. but works great. Will do the toes next. For the iris scan, always wondered if those colored "contacts" work?

Biometric include personal Information chips embedded in passports, digital photographs embedded in passports, face recognition technology, iris and finger print recording and recognition systems Some of these are used in parts of Europe and more in places like Saudi Arabia where they are use to monitor Haj Pilgrims, temporary foreign labour and of course the citizens of the country for purposes of regime protection.

Suvarnabhumi immigration have used the camera for facial recognition for years, so they have the option to run it in a database and it only take seconds to find a match if the unwanteds picture is in the databas. And I was told by a Thai friend at one of their consulates that they run the pictures of visa applicants thru the register also.
