Driver of local district chief gunned down in Pattani

PATTANI: -- The driver of a local district chief was ambushed on a country road Monday and gunned down with war weapons.

 

The number of attackers is not known but police said that it is likely that southern insurgents were to blame.

 

Fifty three year old Maso Jewae had just taken his boss home and was himself on his way home on his motorbike in the Thung Yang Daeng district where he worked.

 

A group of assailants using M16 guns fired at him after jumping out of the undergrowth. A passerby found him alive but he died in hospital shortly after.

 

Police said that Maso was a much loved man who had worked as a driver for several district chiefs over the years. They blamed insurgents who they said were stirring up trouble.
