Does anyone have experience in applying for a non imm visa B in Singapore. Is it just the same as in Penang for example or tougher?

Singapore is rude and hopeless, go to Penang instead. Brisbane, Australia is the most friendly, with rapid service. They give multiple as well.

Brisbane www.thaiconsulate.org.au for the forms.

It is high time someone challenged the b*****ds in Singapore.

If they refuse you a visa write to

Maj Gen Hemmeraj

Head of Immigration

Soi Suan Plu

Bangkok

and ask him why the embassy in Singapore is not following the rules.

Best if you can quote a specific situation.

I had the same problem with the Consulate in Sydney.

They made a reluctant apology.

Did the Indian lady at RTCG Sydney savage you a bit ?

Not sure if Immigration has any say over the embassies. Believe the immigration reports to the chief of police and on to the MOI (Ministry of Interior). The embassies come under MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I would be happy to see the embassy in Singapore apologize. Seems like a lot of us have received rude service there, for no apparent reason.

BUT, it seems like separate embassies/consulates actually establish their own policy..?

I contacted the consulate in Hanoi to see what they required to issue a 3-month multiple entry B, took care of getting all the documents they specified, but with all this, was still only given a 3-month single entry in Yangon. The officer was really nice about it, but said that they could not issue a multiple entry since I had no work permit to show them.

Does anyone know if this policy is common at other embassies as well?

Yes, within a basic frame, every office makes own usage of the rules.

For sure, it is easier to get what you want from a Hon. Consulate in Europe, the more as they do finance their offices from visa-fees. :D

If it helps, it's not only the Thailand reps. I once applied in Bangkok for a Taiwan-visa, specified multiple etc. and was told at the counter that such a thing does not exist. Finally was tranferred by the counter staff to an offical who, very politely explained to me that his country does nowhere issue multiple visas. His face looked like this: :o:D when I agreed but asked him to explain the 3 previous multiples in my p/port, issued through Hong Kong.

Seems to be a Singapore wide problem this rudeness :o

Although you will find a friendlier reception from the Thais next door to the embassy at Orchard Towers :D:D

You are correct Axel. Consulates and Embassies are controlled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Immigration is a division of the Royal Thai Police, and under the control of the Interior Ministry.

Hi Jimbo :o

What is excatly the problem with the Penang office?

Yes....they only issue 3 months non-mmigrant visas...no multiple entry....but anyway, you can extend your visa at the immigration office.

If you want a holiday, well, then Penang is crap.....do as I did....take the boat to Langkawi and enjoy beautiful beaches and clean water. At Cenang beach there are plenty of cheap rooms directly on the beach from 40 RM/Night ( 400 Baht/Night).

Enjoy :D
