PM believes people know the objective of Wat Dhammakaya

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said Tuesday that he believed Thai people in general were aware of the real objective and demand of Wat Dhammakaya.

About the arrest of Phra Dhammachayo, former abbot of the temple, the prime minister said it didn’t matter whether the monk would be arrested before or after the New Year’s Day.

“What really matters is what will the country gain (from the arrest) and whether this is the right timing (to make the arrest)?”, said the prime minister.

Hundreds of police and officials of the Department of Special Investigation laid siege to Wat Dhammakaya before dawn on Tuesday to prevent followers of the cult to get into the temple.

One thing people have learned about the fiasco at wat  dhammakaya is the PMs inability to get things done.

Justice and the implementation of the law should be done, not be seen

as done.....

I'm not Thai. Please enlighten me.

The people do know all about the egg temple and its links to political parties. With 10 million followers of course the current powers that be want it controlled. Me thinks that this cat and mouse game is being played carefully by the almighty T. Like a game of chess. The Catholic church has a new pope. What about Thai Buddhism? Whose the Supreme Patriarch? Is it all about a credit union fraud case or is there more to this fiasco?

Dhammakaya is not a sect, it is a Buddhist tradition of meditation. While I do not agree with their approach to meditation, that is all it is, a certain approach to meditation, not a sect. This tradition of meditation was founded in the early 20th century by   Luang Pu Sodh Candasar. On the other hand what the temple is doing with all it's politics and other stuff going on such as spending donors money on chartered private jets, is also contrary to Buddhism, but still that is the doings of the temple, not the Dhammakaya tradition.

That it is a sanctuary for fraudsters?

Do these questions appeal to all crimes committed, (from rape to armed robbery) or are they just relevant in cases authorities are incapable to enforce the law  and make arrests?

It seems the real objective of the abbot and the temple is

to make the Government look weak and ineffective and

they are doing a very good job at it.

Yup you are correct, the temple is indeed very political. It was a staunch supporter of Thaksin, they did help Thaksin get elected back then, and ever since Thaksin has been giving them benefits such as raising the salaries of SSC (Sangha Supreme Council), and holding large events there to increase the temples membership.

The Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand is the governing body of the Buddhist order (Sangha) ofThailand. Over half of the people on the council are members of the Dhammakaya. So religion has become a very powerful political tool. That is why you see monks being dispatched to political protests.

The only reason why this crook monk can hold on so long even until now is because influential figures are still in negotiation with the army. The army is having none of it anymore.

Can you fill us in on that?? Was it to arrest him, pay homage to him, have a palaver, or nail his B's to the wall. Clarify things general its a mystery to all of us what your objective was.

That they even negotiated in the first place is a mystery to me. Once the name Thaskin came up they should have been all over this thing like a cheap suit.

It is a scamming sect masquerading as Buddhism.

...the play has been casted...
