Hi Thaivisa.com Forum Members,

.

I wish to have at least 1 Blog & / or Forum & / or Web-board.

.

Initially for to highlight & improve social issue pertaining to my home country.

.

Subsequently, I would hope to have one for hobby interest.

And, another for cultural purposes.

But, I realise that that most likely I will have to concentrate on the initial one for many months at least, & perhaps delay setting up the other ones until after that period.

.

I plan to set them up when outside of LOS.

And, if necessary at some stage, for relevant blog / forum / web-board, charge for particular access & with the user paying the fee to account outside of LOS ;

Good & Cheap / Took lay Dee sites if possible ;

Or even better ; Good & Free :smile:

Thaivisa.com Forum format looks & feels good.

vBulletin format looks & feels good.

Note ;

I do not know how to write code or design a website.

Thanking yee all in advance for yer helpful replies.

Start a facebook page and group. Or twitter.

Hi Peterw42,

I meant to say that I aim to avoid making it very personal about me ;

Certainly no photos of me.

Maybe only use of a nom-de-plume / pen-name.

I am very cynical about Facebook.

But, a bit less cynical about Twitter.

Actually, having a Twitter site would complement some of the intended sites.

Thanks for mentioning Twitter.

I use Twitter feeds all the time, but they're tweets from (generally) news sites I follow rather than people with "opinions". I use Flipboard to read them, so it's more like a news feed that just happens to be delivered by Twitter. I regard Facebook as "the abomination that maketh desolate" (Gospel of Matthew 24: 15-16)

Try wordpress https://wordpress.com/

Free to setup your presence and there's all kinds of plug ins you can have including forum.

I am a poster on a wordpress blog ;

The particular wordpress blog has very limited functions & is very boring in feel & look.

.

But, on ur recommendation, I will look into wordpress with hope that its add on options  may make for a much better blog experience than the one I interact with.

There are many free Wordpress templates and as many, or more, templates that you can buy and use

Yes, for a blog or simple forum I would recommend Wordpress but NOT wordpress.com which is a commercial venture, and not a very good one at that. I would get my own domain name and cheap web hosting and would install the free version of Wordpress (from wordpress.org) on that (in fact most cheap hosting services will have it pre-installed or on a "one-click install" system). There are thousands of free templates that can be used with Wordpress to give a suitable "look" to the finished product and there are many free plugins that will allow forum and other functionality.

For a proper full-scale forum dedicated forum software like Vbulletin would do the job better than Wordpress can, but it sounds like the OP wants a blog with comments rather than a full-blown forum.

Hi Kitten Kong,

I have some questions already :

1.

Is Thaivisa.com a V-Bulletin full-blown forum ?

2.

Is there a version of V-Bulletin that is free ?

3.

If "Yes" to 2. [ above ], how good is it ?

4.

Can I insert "graphical" link for a Twitter a/c that I would have also onto the V-Bulletin Forum ?

Like any big online forum, as far as I know ThaiVisa uses official forum software for which they pay.

There are quite a few similar systems that would be suitable for a big and small forums, and some are free.

You would need to do some serious research before choosing one, and whichever you choose would depend very much on exactly what sort of site you are trying to create, and how many users there will be, and what you want them to be able to do.

I still suspect that Wordpress would be your best bet.

You would certainly be able to add links to a Twitter or other social media account.
