Hi,

i have been reading through a lot of posts on her & on a few other forums plus the limited information about this on google and could not find a specific answer for my circumstances, please forgive me if there is ? .

I live in The U.k, I work in the sales industry with 10years exp mainly B2B sales, i have a tens of thousands saved rather than hundreds of thousands (lower than 30k) I have a good education but did not finish a degree & I'm 30 years old next month, no criminal convictions, I have a basic understanding of Thai language, enough for a decent conversation but not for a really in depth long conversation, enough to go out to eat with a non english speaking Thai for it not to be awkward if that makes sense, iv been married since I was 21 to a girl I met in Manchester met uni she's from Bangkok, well sai mai near the old airport, she had a student visa in the U.K., we got married after she finished her degree and now she has a British passport for last 4 years and were expecting a baby this month (first one).

My wife's family have 2 houses, one in mo chit a town house with a restaurant under it opposite the Chanel 7 & one in sai mai which is a big restaurant, so they run there own businesses, her parents are getting a bit old but still really healthy  and well off (ish) not millionaires, iv stayed with her parents multiple times over the last 10years or so, sometimes months at a time & her dad asks me to help out occasionally if I'm about, go to the huge market near sai mai at 4am with the staff or go to the booze store to pick up loads of booze for the restaurant etc. Her parents want to pass both businesses to my wife as she's the eldest daughter and way more responsible than her golden spoon fed younger sister & brother who have everything, there nice just spoiled.

we are really comfortable in the uk and the baby is Guna be born here, my wife want to move back to BKK for the first 4 -8 years of our babies life, accommodation is not a problem as have two big houses and cars etc is not s problem as already have, so we do not need any start up living costs etc, everything is there already and her parents really like me, even her dad does now after years of never talking to me properly.

now I don't think iv missed any details out, so my question is, what can I do for a living and residency in Thailand? Obviously I have to go cos it's my baby, my wife really wants/had to go back, her dad said he'd put me on the books as partial owner if it helps on some property or the business (making it look like I work there I guess) BUT I really don't wanna get involved in that as she has younger bro and sister, I wanna do my own job in the industry I'm good at (sales) or at least a job in a similar field, money isn't hugely important but staying there legally is, I don't want to work for free, I do not want to teach!

In a nutshell, I want a job, earn some money for the next 4-8 years in Bangkok, my wife will run her two family businesses (I want zero input unless it's just a loop hole for residence for a few years)

we been married for all these years, now having a baby half Thai/uk, she has two 2 degrees and I have no degrees, just btecs & a levels and ten years in sales/management.

what can I do??!

iv been searching for months, companies like converse & Nike have HQ but are hard to get unless I am actually physically in Bangkok to go meet face to face.

sorry if this long winded but does anyone have any advice or had a similar problem as this?

iv been as detailed as possible.

any advice is appreciated!

thanks

sean

Your best bet is to get a Non-O visa based on your marriage to a Thai citizen. Once you get settled in Bangkok start looking for work. Network with family and friends to find a Thai company that will employ you.
You can extend your stay during the last 30 days if the 90 day permitted to stay period.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

It seem getting a multiple entry non-o visa at the embassy in London that would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue.

That would allow you plenty of time to look for a job obtain a work permit and work.

If you found a job you could use the income from it to to apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 day of any 90 day entry from your visa. You could use the income from working to meet the 40k baht income requirement for the extension.

B2b experience and a black book of contacts I would expect?

Why not seek out the same type of companies and utilise your black book?

What kind of B2B sales was it so we can open up sone ideas and see if there are opportunities?

Footwear/sports clothing B2B?

Sounds like you got loads of ins to me. Best of luck with the nipper.

i have no idea about telecommunications in Thailand, I tried to get a BB connection in saimai, what a polava!

mo chit was easy though.

Yeah it's proper frustrating, I know how crazy Asians are for it, my wife has Chinese background even tho born in Bkk and her parents too...

so pretty much forced to do education.

the amount of Chinese spend on international fees is beyond me.

Sounds like a good fit. VOIP THAILAND search that term or cloud based telephony systems thailand. Looks like loads of opportunities. I would not even mention the word degree. Just detail your experience on a CV and get some interviews lined up. The basis of your move shows a strong foundation, your location is central. You speak basic thai and it would appear a lot of farang are active in this market already. If you have the knowledge already I cannot see a problem. Sure you may need to knock a few doors but seriously if you have the experience and the drive then I would overlook the degree. A lot will likely disagree but I seen this exact type of discussion on this forum. Check Bonobojt member name and look for his post about same subject aprox 3 months ago and there were a few long termers stating as above. No degree but thriving.

Im Guna get on it now!

cheers for your help

I agree with other posters that you are in a good position, especially with all that family backup.  One approach might be to sit and think how the Bangkok market could use your skills.  For example, you mention deficiencies with BB - how would you fix it?  I have found the book "Business Model You" really useful for this http://businessmodelyou.com/.  Then develop a pitch to local companies to employ you.  You might find the "Pitch Canvas" http://best3minutes.com/the-pitch-canvas/ useful for this.  In other words design your own job and then sell it to employers.

Its useful to divide the companies in Bangkok into three groups - multi-national, globally oriented Thai companies and traditional local companies.  I would pretty much forget about the last group and focus on multi-nationals first.  Expect patchy results with the second group.  Also don't overlook the many foreign run SMEs in the technology space.

Might also be worth taking a look at Iglu if you were thinking about working freelance.  They also have a useful guide to jobs in Thailand  http://iglu.net/comprehensive-guide-expat-jobs-in-thailand/

Hope you find a fulfilling job here.

Don't get caught working / shopping for the restaurant as you don't have a work permit.

Really good links!

I revamped my CV and emailed over to some really decent Bangkok recruitment agencies, they seem on the ball which I really did not expect.

Seems like cloud based (my proficiency in voip and related software is my strong point) solutions are the driving force for telecoms in Bangkok just like all big cities around the world, I don't know why I was expecting everything to still be old digital or analogue lines haha.

I shall keep posted if I get any good feedback.

There is 100% opportunities for telecoms/ICT for foreign workers in Bangkok, I really like this site, http://kticonsultants.com/

A good range of proffesional vacancies, really competitive salaries (£ is so weak at the moment that it's nearly the same as UK wages - £2000 - £4000 pcm), let's see if not having a degree hinders me, I'm confident enough that if I attract attention and get a face to face my experience will show.

its quite strange because when I started digging a bit deeper after advice from here, I unearthed a lot of jobs suited and advertised for all nationalities, all the forums I read before say only jobs for foreigners are Teaching, blogging, freelance stuff, white model ?

cheers!
