webfact
Sweden's best-selling car not a Volvo STOCKHOLM: -- Sweden's best-selling car in 2016 was not a Volvo - the first year that has happened in more than half a century. Instead the Volkswagen Golf topped sales, according to the country's carmakers association. The Golf made up 5.9% of new cars bought in the country. Volvo had a 5.7% slice of the sales, spread across three models. Atleast they are back as a top brand again with The Grand Tour even naming Volvo for making the best interior in the world!

But it is Swedish made and therefore can be termed as a Swedish car. How many various products are produced and termed as European (German, French, British etc.) but the companies manufacturing such products are owned (or at least majority owned) by non Europeans (mostly American and Chinese)? Quite a few.

geriatrickid
Had a Volvo many years ago when the company was 100% Swedish. It was a mechanically unreliable rust bucket piece of crap. It was no better than a GM product.

maoro2013
Don't know that the story refers to Swedish owned or manufactured vehicles. It refers to sales only.

That news was quite a shock when I told my Japanese customer that, his face turned white and panicked as he didn't take delivery of his car yet. (short history, many Japanese don't like Chinese made good due to quality reasons). But luckily his was not made in China. So at least he felt a bit better, but I believe he won't be keeping his car for long.
