Woman charged over acid attack

Featured Replies

A woman who allegedly threw acid on her former boyfriend and his new fiancee, seriously injuring both, was charged yesterday and could face a life sentence. Phnom Penh Municipal Court clerk Ly Kimheng said Peth Sereiroth, 25, was charged by the court prosecutor with “intending to murder by using concentrated acid.”

The charge comes under article 16 of the Law on Regulating Concentrated Acid. “If found guilty, she faces punishment of up to a life sentence,” he said.

Phnom Penh Thmey commune police chief Doung Vannak said Ms. Sereiroth was arrested after she threw concentrated acid on ex-boyfriend Kea Samnang, 25, a mechanic, and his new fiancee San Sokha, 18, a student at the Royal School of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh.   “She confessed that she threw the acid on them because she was angry at her boyfriend because he stopped loving her for no reason and left her to get engaged to another girl,” Mr. Vannak said.
