January 5, 20179 yr Hi all, Unfortunately I've had to come to Phuket from the UK after my mother (lived here for five years) passed away. We are now trying to clear out the things left in her house- some household items, kitchenware, furniture, books, clothes, small electronics, art supplies etc all in good condition . A lot of it I would like to donate and am wondering if you have any suggestions for charity/ goodwill stores or anything similar in Phuket I can go to. I would like to hold a garage sale for the rest of the things for locals and expats. Any suggestions of free classified ads would be most welcome. Many thanks, Tess
January 5, 20179 yr Your location might be beneficial for a charity suggestion. I think Thai Visa Classified is free?....I think....Button above in blue.
January 5, 20179 yr People seem to have good luck selling things using the "Phuket Buy/Sell (For Expats)" group on Facebook.
January 5, 20179 yr My condolences for your mother's passing. Phuket special school for special need children would be my favourite place to donate things away. Maybe you could ask them if they need anything. These links should provide information and contact numbers. I'm not sure if those are accurate anymore. If the phone numbers etc. are not up to date and you are willing to donate things to them, I can always visit the school to get up to date information. The school is not too far from where I live. https://www.phuket.net/directory/education/schools/phuket-special-school/ http://www.art-phuket.com/specialschool.htm Another option could be just to visit one of many Burmese worker's camps. I'm sure they would love any donations.
January 6, 20179 yr Author That's great, thank you for all your helpful suggestions- will have a look through them.
January 6, 20179 yr I agree with Oilinki, any Burmese laborer would gladly accept anything you give them, and if you go to one of the camps, you will probably come away wishing you could have given more. Edited January 6, 20179 yr by NamKangMan
January 6, 20179 yr Anything you want to give away just leave it outside your house on the road verge with a sign saying its free to take A couple of hours and it will be all gone as soon as the word gets around, bush telegraph works well here
January 6, 20179 yr ^^^ I set a broken microwave at the trash bin a few days ago, took a five minute up and back trip to the mom and pop store and upon return the microwave was gone.
January 6, 20179 yr You could post the items on BahtSold for free and offer at 0 cost.Wish you and your family my condolences and all the best at this time.Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect mobile app
January 7, 20179 yr https://www.lhpf.org/ This is the website for the Life Home Project Foundation here in Phuket and they cater for the needs of women and children suffering from HIV/Aids. I had a clearout of some of my daughters toys a few years back, along with clothes and some kitchen items we didn't use any more, so took them along to the "village". I thought it would be good to add some other items to the "load" so stopped off at a market and bought some fresh fruit, sweets and other food. Well the experience was very moving as the children, although a little shy at first, were so pleased with their new toys and the joy at also getting sweets and fruit that it brought a tear to my eyes. I can thoroughly recommend making this trip to the far side of Phuket and I'm sure the Foundation would appreciate your gifts.
