Petition over Jatuporn’s health rejected during visit to Bangkok prison

BANGKOK: -- RED-SHIRT LEADER Nattawut Saikua yesterday met with Corrections Department authorities regarding detained politician Jatuporn Promphan’s recent illness and called for him to be treated in a hospital outside the prison.

 

Officials at the Corrections Department, the Bangkok Remand Prison and the prison hospital assured Nattawut that Jatuporn had received proper treatment and was recovering well.

 

Nattawut said he accepted the department’s rules and acknowledged that it was unlikely that Jatuporn would be sent to an alternative hospital. However, the former minister said he wanted government and Corrections Department authorities to understand that Jatuporn was not a convict.

"Not a convict" how about progressing his court case so that there is no doubts about what he is

OK OK. Put him in a MINIVAN and send him to a Chiang Mai hospital. Problem solved.

My understanding was that he was a deputy minister, not a minister. And a very poor choice at that, a reward for his past frightening deeds, all ignoring credibility, capability, and morals.

 

I recall his fast response that he would charge dem politicians with trespass when they came forward with rotten rice from a warehouse.

 

Such a nice man.

He was convicted, but allowed bail whilst his appeal was in process.

 

Bail was conditional on certain behaviors and he broke the bail conditions several times.

 

So bail cancelled and back inside.

He was charged for the 2010 case and released on bail and yet to be convicted by a jury or judge in a court of law. He is therefore not a convict. You need some understanding of the word "convict" and "conviction".

Nope. He's a convicted criminal who was on bail pending appeal and chose to repeatedly break his bail conditions. Something his "friend" and fellow non elected red shirt leader Nat was more careful about.

 

Hard for these guys to realize they're no longer above the law.

Was he sentenced to a suspended sentence after conviction in a case Eric? Did he appeal against that conviction and receive bail pending that appeal. Has he repeatedly broken those bail conditions?

No, he was sentenced for Defamation and ignoring the Bail requirements.

He was convicted of breaching the terms and conditions of his bail which had repeatedly been extended. Foolishly for him he believed that he was fireproof and that nobody could touch him. He was wrong.

 

Nattwut Saikua is also out on bail but being a little smarter than Jatuporn, he keeps a low profile so he remains out on bail.

The legal word is revoke not convict. His bail was revoked for breaching the terms and condition. What he did was simply expressing his opinion but deemed a breach of bail condition.

He got bail with conditions (normal). Be broke the conditions and no matter how you try to twist it he broke the conditions.

fyi: It's a matter of public record that he was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to two years in prison.

You have qouted a different case in which Jatuporn was sentenced for defamation of Ahbisit and given a suspended sentence. That case is over and done.

 

The case of bail rejection and his detention was for the 2010 case and the court has yet to sit. So technically he is not a convict.

Meanwhile many many red supporters years later still languish in jail, conveniently forgotten and ignored by the red machine.

Does anyone knows what he exactly said, that was considered as "inciting unrest"?

This is red shirt small potatoes. It is really designed to take people's eyes off the bigger picture which well was its intent in the first place. Red shirts are yesterdays news the junta well now they are front and center taking us down the garden path with their "road map"

He is correct. Too many unqualified uneducated clowns using legal terms and expressions incorrectly and out of context. The man was accused of defamation and then terrorism. These were politically related  charges. The intent was to silence him. He was  given bail as the case dragged on.  He continued to express his views. As a result he was  incarcerated.
