BANGKOK: -- The flooding situation in many southern provinces remains critical as rains continued in the areas, and runoff from hard-hit provinces flowing down to low lying provinces adding more hardship for local people.

Meanwhile famous tourist destination, Koh Samui was also flooded yesterday.

Continuous heavy rains on Koh Samui caused the Taweerat Phakdi road, the main road around the island, to be inundated in many locations, with the road in front of the Wat Bor Phut temple linking between Ban Dara Hotel and Bor Phut intersection the worst hit area.

A kilometre long section of the road was under water.

Other secondary road situated in front of the Dao Seafood market was also submerged with a 50 centimetres deep of flood water, while the Chawaeng beach road was flooded under 30-centimetre of water.

Meanwhile a latest report today said Trang is hardest hit now with water runoff from Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Thung Song district flowing down, forcing local authorities to declare five districts as disaster areas.

They are Rassada, Huey Yod, Wangwises, Nayong and Muang.

Several sections of embankment on Trang river were reported to collapse after the river overflowed banks yesterday.

Flash flood yesterday also hit the Lang Suan district of Chumphon province inundating governmental offices and hospitals, causing  Lang Suan Hospital to evacuate  patients from the first floor to the second flood.

In neighbouring Phatthalung province, three districts are now flooded.

They included  Muang, Kuan Khanun, and Pa Phayom districts. Kuan Khanun is hardest hit with most areas under 1 metre deep of flood water.

The Asian Highway on the section from Kuan Khanun district to Cha Auad district is inundated at three locations, whereas the road linking between Kuan Khanun and Sri Banphot districts is  also under deep water and impassable for all vehicles.
