BANGKOK: -- As floods continue to wreak havoc to many southern provinces and more rains are forecasted this weekend, all south-bound trains from Bangkok to the deep south could now run only to Chumphon from earlier ending at  Surat Thani station.

The State Raikways of Thailand (SRT) announced Friday morning that now south-bound trains from Bangkok will run only to Chumphon railway station as the end destination.

The number of trains will also be cut to five trains, all ending at Chumphon station instead.

The five trains to be on service are Express Train 43 on Bangkok-Surat Thani route, Rapid Train 171 on Bangkok-Sungai Kolok route, Rapid Train 173 on Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat route, Express Train 85 on Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat route, and Special Express Train 39 on Bangkok-Surat Thani route.

That's an awful lot of railway closed down and it is still raining in Chumphon..

The permanent way engineers and structures examiners will have quite a job getting things up and running once the water finally subsides.
