Where can I donate somewhat "inappropriate" books?

Featured Replies

Weird question, but I have a set of the Fifty Shades of Grey books that I no longer want, it doesn't feel right to throw it away but I can't donate it to shelters or schools either haha. Wonder if anyone knows any good second hand book shops or libraries in Bangkok who would take them off me?

So you feel that these books are inappropriate,

Then you want to pass them on!

I used to go to work before dawn in Bangkok (Asoke) and was always amazed at the trash guys who would empty the bins from the apartment complex onto the street, and sift through looking for anything of value before putting the garbage into the truck.

If I had a set of books to get rid of, I'd bind them up into the set and put them out with the trash, confident that they'd end up in the place most likely to make someone a few baht by reselling them.

If you're in Pattaya, take the books to the next breakfast meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club where the books will be made available free to members.

As an alternative, take your books to Canterbury Tales (used book store) for a store credit.

If you're not in Pattaya, check local listings for similar groups/stores.

Turn them into toilet paper.

You can rename them " 50 Shades of Brown "

To the OP:

Contact Dasa. Email them a list (in writing, no pictures) of what you've got. They don't like walk-ins and "here take this stuff".

Consider sending them to a high school library in California.

Infant school libraries in the US would clamber to put your book on their shelves.

Call me a prude, but I don't know that I'd bring my "inappropriate books" to an expat club meeting.  That would probably go over like bringing a MAGA t-shirt collection or a Marylin Chambers retrospective box set.  Nobody would want to be seen taking them.  And I wouldn't want to be seen bringing them.  First impressions and all...

If near Chatuchuk, there's a whole section of used book stores right near the MRT Kampheang Phet (sp?) station.  I think the chances of offloading them would be higher in the weekend market.

what about your local temple

Bob?

lots of hotels have a bookcase in lobby or near the pool where people leave one take one paperbacks....just put them in one if these and those that want to read them will....

Local prison and jail houses will just be delighted for a new material to keep the inmate busy i would guess...

and the more 'inappropriate the better...

Fifty Shades of Grey 4 Books Collection By E L James

Mail them to Canterbury tales in Pattaya.   You can easily look up the address.   Kerry would be inexpensive.

Correct, always desperate for waanking material in those places.

Send them to   Neilson-Hays Library in Bangkok.  A very large English library on Surawong    They would love to have them

A little story that I've told before on this forum:

About 20 years ago I lived in Saladaeng and managed my UK 'sex-chat' text messaging business remotely.  (This was an AI chat app called Natachata that the BBC reviewed at the time and said it was a good candidate to pass the Turing test - fooling users into thinking that they were chatting with a real human).

At that time, online advertising wasn't 'a thing' and so I mostly advertised in top-shelf printed media with a company called Goldstar Publications who published the most 'inappropriate' sorts of magazines.  (Think of your dear old grandma being 'serviced' by a well-endowed black guy...).

Anyway, Goldstar would publish my adverts each month and then send me a copy by snail mail to prove that they had published my paid advert.  But I told them that on no account were they to post this disgusting material to me in Thailand because I would probably end up on some porno criminal charge.

But they didn't listen!  Every month, about 10 different top-shelf mags would arrive at my rented condo in Saladaeng and I would hastily put them in a black bin bag and throw them away.

One day, the usual assortment of absolute sex filth (!) arrived and I quickly put them in a black bag and went to the communal trash can facility on my floor.  As I was pushing the bag into the already-full can, the bag ripped, exposing the absolute worst kind of depraved pensioner-sex porn to the Thai cleaning lady.

"They're not mine"  I babbled, going bright crimson.

"Mai ben rai" she said. "I make very good money every month from selling your magazines - I watch you every time you go to this trash can!!"

At the local incinerator

I put an opened container of youghurt out in the hall with the FREE! written on it. It was gone in 5 minutes.

To be fair, it was big one, not a small one.
