BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department on Friday warned residents in Petchaburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumporn, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket and Krabi to brace for “heavy” and “very heavy” rains Friday and Saturday.

It said that the downpour which was caused by the strong northeastern monsoon over the southern region and the Gulf compounded by strong low pressure area in the Andaman Sea which is moving toward Myanmar could trigger flash floods.

However, it said that rains would weaken starting on Sunday, but asked residents in the 10 southern provinces to keep themselves abreast with weather updates.
