BANGKOK: -- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported today that floods that have devastated 12 provinces in the South have affected over a million people and claimed the lives of 31 people.

Chatchai Phromlert, the director-general of the Department, said today that floodings in 12 provinces since January 1 until today have submerged 117 districts, 700 tambons, and 5,145 villages.

A total of 394,509 households comprising 1,188,871 people were affected.

31 people died and two went missing, he said.

For damages to government property, he said 17 government offices, 592 roads, and 106 bridges were damaged.

But he said flood situation has now eased in Yala and Ranong while 10 remained flooded.

They are Phatthalung, Narathiwat, Songkhla, Pattani, Trang, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chumphon, Krabi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

although this flooding is bad and an unfortunate act of nature, it pales to insignificant when compared to the daily monthly yearly carnage on Thai roads mostly down to acts of extreme stupidity and is something you can actually take action to improve

something you can actually take action to improve

Yeah, I guess, if you are only capable of doing one thing?

Planning, preparation, contingency, mitigation....oh, right. Never mind.
