I have nearly reached the end of my waivers and I will soon not be eligible for a Thai Teacher's license.

However, I am now employed as a manager at my school and I no longer need to do any teaching.

Has anyone ever obtained a visa and work permit working for a school in another capacity besides as a teacher?

Or has anyone obtained a visa and work permit as a manger for another business?

I'm curious what the process is as neither me nor my school is familiar.

You can get a non-b visa and an extension of stay as a manager at a school. It falls under the same clause as teaching in the police order as "Educational Personnel"  for an extension of stay.

(4) In case of educational personnel, the alien must have degree or experience that meet the work requirement and the ratio of alien employees shall not exceed 10 percent of total teachers or instructors in a particular education institution.

You can also get a work permit as a manager.

Thank you Joe.

Do you happen to know if I need a teacher's license to be "Educational Personnel"?

If a Thai can do the same job, you will not get a work permit for being a manager if you do not do any teaching.

You are wrong. There many people working at schools as managers.

OK Joe, I was just thinking whether Thais could do whatever these managers do.

My Thai company is hiring a European as a manager and he just got his Non-B no problem. A foreigner can definitely work in a managing position in a Thai company provided that the company has a good reason to hire a foreigner and not a Thai. My company is in real estate and our reason is that we are selling properties to foreigners as well as Thais, hence, the need of a foreigner to help out with foreign clients. The position title is also important. When we submitted documents for his work permit at Provincial Employment Office, we put him in as "International Coordination Manager", and they said we had to change the title to "International Marketing Manager" as a Thai could be a "coordinator" (but not a marketer? ...). Funny, but we complied as they suggested and that was that. All in all, it means that your school could hire you as a manager too so long they have a reason.

Thank you Simoun, this could prove to be helpful.  They want me in this role as opposed to a Thai because I need to recruit teachers from other countries.  Perhaps a title like "International Recruitment Manager" will do.
I will, of course, be open to any suggestions from the local employment office; they can change the title to whatever they like as long as they issue me a work permit :)
