Protest disperses

BANGKOK: -- The protesters against the coup makers and interim government peacefully dispersed from the Democracy Monument at 8:30 pm.

They have moved their protest site from Sanam Luang to the Democracy Monument.

At 8 pm, the protest leaders read from a statement that they were opposed to the drafting of the new constitution and they were against the "dictators".

After the declaration of their opposition to the constitution drafting, they lit up candles and a mocked interim charter.

After burning the mocked interim charter, they peacefully dispersed at 8:30 pm.

it was some 3k

the title of this thread is a little confusing

That was according to The Nation.

It was about 1000 people according to the police. It would have been maybe more if the government would not have blocked people from the provinces from joining.

Hundreds demonstrate against coup

Hundreds of anti-coup protesters on Sunday demanded a quick return to democratic rule in Thailand, in the largest demonstration since former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted from power last Sept 19. More than 500 people attended the rally. Authorities lifted martial law - which barred political gatherings - two weeks ago in Bangkok.

Security was hardly visible at the protest, where speakers demanded that new elections be held quickly. Organisers then led a march to the city's Democracy Monument, about a kilometre away.

Either way, I've been to weddings, petting zoos, and bookstore signings that had more people.

Bangkok Post:

http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/11Dec2006_news01.php

Some 1,000 protesters turned out yesterday demanding the departure of the Council for National Security (CNS) and the interim government led by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to bring about the return of the 1997 constitution and fresh elections.

My wife knows a couple who attended. They say about a thousand, which seems to fit with most reports.

You must be wrong because the number is disputed by reports from people who have not even seen it. :o

According to my first quote, he seems to be right :D
