Bangkok-Muak Lek train route opened to promote dairy farming

BANGKOK, 18 January 2017 (NNT) – A new train service between Bangkok and Muak Lek district of Saraburi province has been inaugurated to promote agro-tourism and encourage people to learn about dairy farming.

To celebrate the National Dairy Cow Day, which falls on January 17 of every year, Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Theerapat Prayurasiddhi officiated at the launch of the inaugural train ride on the Bangkok-Muak Lek route.

Under the collaboration between the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO) and the State Railway of Thailand, the new service is part of a project to raise the popularity of train travel, support dairy farmers in Muak Lek district and honor King Chulalongkorn and King Bhumibol Adulyadej for their contributions to the development of dairy farming in Thailand.

DPO Director Narongrit Wongsuwan said the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm in Muak Lek district has been designated the agro-tourism center of Saraburi in order to provide visitors, especially children, with the knowledge and understanding about dairy farming as well as benefits of drinking milk.

The Bangkok-Muak Lek rail service was also introduced to accommodate people who are planning to visit the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm during the upcoming National Dairy Cow Festival, scheduled for January 30-February 5.
