My 90 days of 3 30 day tourist visas are almost up.

Id like to stay longer as Im looking into starting a business here next year... but have no documentation regarding this yet and wont have in time.

The ewasiest way of doing this I have heard is going to perhaps Singapore, Laos or HK and applying for a 60 day tourist visa... is this correct, and what are my chances of being denied one?

Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no one knows a definitive answer as yet :o

I'd go to KL, Singapore or Penang NOW don't wait for the rush that's going to happen at the beginning of January.

Whatever happens do let us know how you got on.

When you need a stamp, just do your visa run and see what happens. If you fail, you should still get a 7 day stamp and you'll have the option of doing another tourist visa run to Malaysia, Laos or somewhere else.

A lot of people are waiting anxiously for the first word on 30-day stamps after tourist visas and tourist visas after 30-day stamps...tick, tock, tick, tock, a few more weeks and we'll have some clues maybe. December 29 is the 90th day since October 1.

The easiest way but not cheapest would be to go home and get a one year multi Non-O. This will allow you 1 year and three months stay with a border exit every 3 months.

You should find all the information you need to obtain a non immigrant "O" visa here Royal Thai Consulate Hull Website

You can contact them by email, they are very helpful, you can get your visa from them by mail if you are in UK, but not from Thailand.

One litttle tip that may save you the cash in regards to flying back to your home country. I live in laos and have met several Thai hands who come here and then Fed Ex there passports back to their home countries in order to get the new visa. One used Houston, Texas and the other Sydney. One of them had the consulate in Texas Fed Ex the passport back and the other used his sister's address in Sydney. That is he Fed Exed the passport to her and she sent it via mail in Sydney and they returned it to her. Then she Fed Exed it back. The turn around time is over a week doing it this way but may save you a trip home. This only works if you are outside of Thailand.

This visa is available for staying with friends, etc. It is only issued in your home country. For the UK Hull Consulate is a good place as reported on tis forum. It means however you need to go out every 3 months for a boarder run. In the worst case you would get a 3 months Non-O single entry.

a couple of points:

first. wouldn't the consular staff in let's say houston expect to see a usa 'entry' stamp in your passport or at least matching entry-exit stamps from the countries you visited? so i am reluctant to believe this works... at least all the time

secondly. when i first tried to get a non-'o' from the los angeles office i was refused. the reason was that i had failed to mark the reason i wanted a non- 'o' on the application form. the reason i failed to mark the reason on the form was because i wanted the non -'o' visa to come to thailand to get a retirement visa which requires a bank account which i didn't have and couldn't open without being in thailand. so i sent them an explanatory letter along with the application and asked them to fill in the correct 'reason'. application refused. now i do visa runs and am waiting on the new policy to effect me.

all my fault of course. i didn't understand the LOS mentality then. but it did cause me to question the ease with which others seem to get their non-'o' visas.

I accompanied a friend who to the Hua Hin immigration office today. He asked if he could get his third thirty day tourist visa next week, then go to Penang in January for the sixty day tourist visa. They said no problem.

US citizens do not receive an entrry stamp when entering the United States. Even in Europe, it's probably 50/50 as to whether I get stamped in/out on any given entry/exit. I recall one time handing my passport to the immigrations official at Schiphol Airport and without even opening the passport, he simply glanced at the cover and then handed it back to me. Not all immigrations officials world-wide are as anal about passport stamps as they seem to be in most Asian countries.

The Thai consulate in Los Angeles has a reputation for not granting these visas for the purpose you state. Even if your paperwork were all in order, they would probably find a reason to refuse you anyway. Welcome to Thailand. :o

Mail order application for visa should only be done when you are in the country or the jurisdiction of the Consular office involved.

Without an exit stamp from Laos the applicant would obviously be in Laos and the Consulate should not issue a visa. Thai immigration has noticed such at times and refused to honor visa for travelers who have not obtained them in person.

The visa should not be issued; if issued it should not be accepted.

Not to mention the obvious concern that you are waiting in a foreign country without a passport.

This is very tricky as you do not have an exit stamp for Laos when you apply in your home country.

Also I would not like to find myself without a passopirt in place like Vientiane....

The Non Imm O is dead easy to get. When I got mine a few years ago all I needed to do was get a letter from a sponsor back in the UK saying they would support any repatriation back to the UK. It was just a letter and the sponsor had no intention of funding any future repatriation should it ever happen and I would never have asked them anyway should I have needed it.

After a day, I got the non imm O visa without any hassles and have been here in Thailand ever since. The good thing is, you only have to leave the country every 3 months for a visa run and if you get a job and a WP then you can just continually use the Non Imm O to stay here as it just gets extended. I have never left Thailand in all the time I have been here and it astounds me how many people put themselves through the hassle of tourist visa's for 30 days or 60 days when this 1 year Non imm O option exists. Complete barmy if you ask me. :o

Please Krub, do not give on this forum WRONG information :o

There is no more visa to visit a friend in Thailand :D This visa is now limited to wife/husband or child.

See § 7.23 of http://www.lawyer.th.com/National_Police_O...er_Oct_2006.pdf

Maybe the UK Hull Consulate if very tolerant about the rules, but I tried 2 consulates in France and the 1 of Monaco and they all clearly said that it was no more possible to get such a visa :D

Pattaya46

PS: The Monaco consulate deliver even now only single-entry tourist visa. Their understanding of the new rules is that a tourist must not stay in Thailand more than 90 days in 180, with or without visa :D

If you care to have a look at the Hull Consulate's web site you will see that the Non-Im O is available to visit relatives, friends or for extended stays.

I was referring to the Hull Consulate and not to any in froggie land

Your experience with Consulates in France is valuable for would be applicants there

Each Consulate is a law on their own and that is why it is difficult to keep up but it also gives opportunities while they last.

It is not only true of the Consulates but also of the fdifferent immigration offices within Thailand

Get your facts right before complaining

Sorry but wrong. Please read carrefuly :

The document I was referring to is the "National Police Office Order n° 606/2006" of the Thai Immigration, not a document of a french consulate...

It' a luck for you if the Hull Consulate use very old and tolerant rules for visa, but in most of the orther consulates or Immigration offices you will NOT get a nom-imm O visa only to visit a friend... :D

Pattaya46

PS: I would like to have such a visa, so please prove me that I am wrong :o
