40 Thai Tourists Held Hostage by Karens in Myanmar

Fourty Thai tourists have been held hostages by Karens who demand for a release of its member charged with human-trafficking according to Royal Thai Police on Saturday.

 

The tourists have been captured within the Myanmar territory. But according to police, some hostages have been released through negotiations between Thai authorities and the Karen group.

Not that I endorse hostage taking or human traffickers, i am very intrigued to see how the Thais play this one. They have absolutely no leverage whatsoever.

 

The RTP negotiators surely aren't that adept when the usual MO of theirs is shoot first and fabricate a plan B after the fact

On Wednesday, a Karen man was arrested by Thai police for being involved with human-trafficking but the captors of the Thai tourists believe their friend is innocent.

Anyway the thai never respected the karens. Nor the ones on their own territory nor the ones in myanmar. They mainly used them if they could get advantage such as logging concessions...

KANCHANABURI — Forty Thai tourists were reportedly held hostage by members of a Karen community Saturday morning as they were attempting to return to Thailand from Myanmar.

 

Police said the tourists were prevented from crossing the border into Kanchanaburi province and held hostage in exchange for Thailand’s release of a Karen Myanmar man.

 

The man was said to be jailed for human trafficking.
