China urges Trump administration to fully grasp importance of 'one China'

BEIJING (Reuters) - The new U.S. administration must fully understand the importance of the "one China" policy, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Monday.

 

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was inaugurated on Friday, broke with decades of precedent last month by taking a telephone call from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, and has subsequently suggested that the "one China" policy was up for negotiation.

 

Beijing views the self-governed island as a wayward province, to be brought under its control by force if necessary.

One word :  WHY ?

Here we go again. China telling USA what to do. China take does not accept advice from USA so why would USA take advice from a communist country like China. 

China has no business telling USA what to do!

China needs to stop supporting North Korea and aiding them making nuclear bombs and intercontinental ballistic missiles; stop encroaching on other nation' land and sea claims especially in the South China Sea; start accepting world court decisions regarding territorial borders; and allow free elections in Hong Kong; etc. etc.

 

USA should ignore the One China Policy until at least all of the above are done.

 

I wish Taiwan's leaders would invite USA to establish a military presents on the island and give USA a 100 yr lease on 50 sq. miles of land on the coast, for USD$1 per year.

 

That would be appropriate action for China's aggressive moves.

Additionally, the USA should get Japan to plant few missile batteries on their islands, which China disputes as Chinese. Also get South Korea, Vietnam and Philippines to plant a few more missile batteries in their own territories, which China claims as Chinese.  That will box in China on the East coast and provide forward operating bases for closer operations/

 

On Western front, get India involved. Put in an integrated missile defense system in northern India, plus a few long range delivery vehicles, targeting Beijing.  Get Nepal and Bhutan to either to get in bed with China or swing West.  Tibet would love freedom from Beijing. And of course USA can count on support from Dalai Lama.

 

Finally, get more friendly with Russia. Get them to move a few battalions of armor and infantry to the border with China.

 

That should get Beijing Boys ready for real talks and negotiation.

You mean like the military presents the USA gives to Israel?

The USA sells military products to Taiwan currently, but I don't think the USA has evey given them to Taiwan as presents! :)

The rest of the world has been pussy footing around with China, it's human rights abuses, international corruption, currency manipulation and general abuse of any outside company trying to work inside the country,  for decades. The same is true for several other Asian nations where cheating, deceit and corruption mixed with xenophobia is the rule.

 

It is long overdue that the USA says enough is enough and demands that they play by the rules of everyone else. I am glad Trump is taking a stand against them and I hope other Western nations will join in not only against China but also against other corrupt nations and start calling them out for what they are.

Nor has the US the right to advice China.

On the other hand, China owns quite a lot of US, and not the other way around.

Nothing is ever a present. Consider it a subsidy to the  US military industrial readiness. The USA cannot idle its defense industries. Tens of thousands would be out of work and national security would be harmed. That's why  they cut these deals. It's not just the USA. EU  nations  and Sweden come up with imaginative ways to sell their armaments to the world. Canada ia a major arms exporter. It is selling some nasty APCs to the Saudis and it  caused quite a scandal. However, the jobs maintained were a nice reason to sell the restricted vehicles to a nasty nation.

China can both dump assets, and  call in its loans. US refusal to pay back loans would result in a massive financial meltdown and collapse of confidence in the US financial markets.

Need an idea of what damage this can cause? Watch the  movie Too Big to Fail.

I really doubt that China, or many other lenders can simply call in a loan unless it is part of the terms of the loan agreement. China is also an economic basket case and needs those US dollars to purchase oil. We are still a long way off before a Chinese currency has the stability of the US dollar and to be accepted by the oil producing states.

The PRC is mostly bluster and arrogance. Trump's attitude towards Taiwan is one of the very few topics where Trump and I have a convergence of interests. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

You are blissfully unaware, but the USA has sabotaged the canadian oil industry for decades, capitalizing on the greed and stupidity of Canadians as well as encouraging internal disputes. This resulted in creating market forces where Canada sold its oil and gas to the USA at less than market costs only to reimport some of it as refined product at a significantly higher cost. The US controlled most of Canada's oil and gas sector and blocked the building  of new refineries.

All this is about to change as a new pipeline is built to canada's west coast. That pipeline will provide the oil and gas  China needs. It will come from one of the world's largest reserves, and from one of the most stable of suppliers. Instead of money flowing to the USA it will go to China. In return. China has been buying up Canada's oil and gas industries slowly pushing out the USA.

The oil glut will soon come to an end. When it does, the USA will have singlehandedly  cut its own throat while feeding its economic rival.

 

Loans come up for renewal every month. various funding facilities require revalidation annually.

Piss off China and it call comes to a  halt. The Nw York real estate market would collapse.

US Treasury Bonds are paid at maturity. They can be sold in the highly liquid market place if the bearer wishes but the bearer cannot "call" the loan.

The question is how does China pay for the oil. It can not pay in Canadian dollars as China exports too little to Canada to cover their costs of energy. So they still will pay with $US and thus will still need to sell boatloads of goods to the US to pay for the oil.

The PRC could have chosen an alternative direction to build their economy by focusing upon internal consumption rather than exports. But like their Teo Chieu brethren here in Thailand, they prefer the internal colonial model, export and extract resources, that benefits the elite at the expense of the nation.

The NYC housing bubble will inevitably collapse. The fragility of the US financial system is a self inflicted wound apart from Chinese policy. The US financial system too will collapse, but it can easily be temporarily nationalized if the politicians are willing to force the bond holders to pay and not the taxpayers. And that is a big if.

First, Trump has a lot of grasping to do.   He has to grasp whose Shoals those are, where international waters are and what it is he wants.

Sure thing, but how about China grasp the importance of other countries' territorial rights. Problem with arrogant, egotistical, xenophobic politburos (especially Chinese ones) is there is no compromise, they must have it all. Urging, telling, begging Trump to do this or not ain't going to get them anywhere. They're better off keeping quiet.

A shame maybe but not a problem. If it is deemed to be a "problem" then just nationalize the assets. Easy, eh?

 

China wants to lecture the USA but they certainly don't give a s**t about their neighbours e.g. South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia etc.

China does not have to, "sell boatloads of goods to the US to pay for the oil", they can pay Canada with US debt it already holds.

 

Data suggests that internal consumption in China is growing exponentially. Starting by exporting to nations which can afford goods, as Japan and S. Korea have done, is the common path to advanced industrialization.

Oh stop.  It's not a question of who has the "right" to advise who.  That's just what you say when you want to inject some sense of  "righteousness" into the conversation.  If China is squatting in international waters, EVERY country has the right to "advise" China.  Particularly after the other countries have taken the trouble to obtain an impartial, objective, international ruling on the matter.  This is very much like how WWII started.  Both in Europe (right down to the Obamian, very Chamberlainesque appeasement) AND in the Pacific (right down to the rivalry for energy resources).  The UN should really be taking a careful look at China's aggression, but of course that's a total waste of time.
