Any idea what the weather and beaches are like for swimming.

Kata is a pleasant beach so you won't have far to go for a swim.

if the weather of late is anything to go on, make sure you bring plenty of suncream! this high season is gonna be a bumper. the weather has been great, and tourists are coming in droves.

Kata Villa is actually located directly opposite the southern end of Karon beach. Lovely swimming pool and garden area, excellent inexpensive restaurant serving mainly western food. Across the road is the Ruam Thep Inn (nice Thai food) offering the beach access. All in all - a nice location.
