Football gambling racket busted at Swampy taxi rank

BANGKOK: -- A football gambling racket operating openly in an office next to the taxi rank at Suvarnabhumi airport was busted yesterday.

An airport special force, soldiers and local authorities raided the operation and arrested Preecha Anuwat, 39, who was in charge.

They took coupons, betting slips, a tablet and a phone as well as 13,590 baht into evidence. Two punters - one a taxi driver the other a limousine driver - were also arrested at the scene, reports Daily News.

Daily news said that the betting syndicate was operating without fear of prosecution for a long time.

They said there was also suggestions that loan sharking and hi-lo gambling was also going on but those involved in this activity had got wind of the raid so only the football betting side of the business was busted.

Punters were betting on the outcome of foreign football matches.
