webfact
Public want NHRC members to be from different backgrounds By Kasamakorn Chanwanpen The Nation BANGKOK: -- The public is calling on the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), which is responsible for writing an organic law on the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), to ensure the commissioners come from different backgrounds and that the NHRC is given the authority to prosecute. Thechook
Does this mean that farangs can serve or is it just for thais? What does different background actually mean in Thailand when it comes to human rights?

They'll get members from the army, the navy, the air force, the police, the justice system. Not a bad egg in sight :)

mtls2005
Yeah, good luck with that. It's amazing the Junta hasn't just scrapped the NHRC. (I actually thought hey had, but maybe they just de-fanged it?)

(I actually thought hey had, but maybe they just de-fanged it?) Well, the NHRC has always been on the right side of the political arena: - 90+ people killed in 2010: no problem - elections blocked: no problem - limitation of human rights by the Junta: no problem
