The tourists were expected to spend a billion baht during the festival visiting Chinatown in the city and a flower festival from February 3rd to 5th.

Other places full of tourists were the southern beaches like Similan and in Pangnga where visitors of Chinese ancestry from Singapore and Malaysia in particular were swelling the coffers.

While in Khon Kaen many traditional activities were taking place including the giving of traditional gifts for what the Thais call "trut jeen".

At the Khao Khiaw zoo in Chonburi a large dragon and a huge cock greeted visitors to the well known attraction. The dragon and the cock are symbols of power for the Chinese.

Its a good thing I have a clean mind and do not misconstrue this statement. Yes the tourist numbers are up again this Chinese New Years for the zillionth year in a row. My prediction for next week is that as the Chinese market will be closed for a whole week and they are big buyers of gold someone will sneak in and drop a big dime (large gold paper contract) on the very small gold market and it will drop by 50 to 100 points again. It happened the last 5 day Chinese holiday and is part of the gold manipulation process.

The underlying themes in this story are primarily:

Bragging.

TNA claimed that arrivals were up on last year"

Money.

Tourists were expected to spend a billion baht"

Greed.

"Swelling the coffers"
