Moved to health forum.

It is completely illegal to get Xanax and similar drugs other than at a hospital pharmacy, has been for some years.

Illegal for both buyer and seller.

Same is true for Zolpidem etc, but you can get Atarax over the counter which works well for sleep

I got some amitriptyline without prescription a couple of months ago.

Like atarax it is an anti-depressant primarily meant for long term use.

But is is a very good sleep inducer when used on an occasional basis.

A little afters, but not too bad.

Atarax is not an anti-depressent and indeed would likely worsen depression.

It is an antihistamine and minor tranquilizer.

Works well for some people, not as well for others. It does not  make most people feel "rotten", but it can do this is some people. This variation in response is true of most sleep aids.

It should not be taken regularly on long term basis for sleep, there is no data on the safety of that. But fine for occasional use.

Doctors with practices outside of hospitals often do not stock these (though it does vary with the doctor). If you see a doctor at the outpatient section of a hospital, you will usually get medication but in small quantity.

Yes. Of course, I got some for itchy skin once  ..... antihistamine.

No afters and used it for one week. It was useful. Used moderate alcohol at the time and was sleepy.

Nb. "depressant."

I used to visit a medical clinic in Sukhumvit 71 where I was able to buy Diazepam 5 mg for my sleeping problem. But that is after a check-up and interview with their doctor each time I refill, and only allowed to buy about 20 to 30 pills each time. Thankfully, my sleeping problem eventually went away after working on regular time (9am to 6 pm) at the office.
