Little Black Duck Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Two patients limp into two different Australian medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement. The first patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week. The second sees his family doctor after waiting a week for an appointment, then waits eighteen weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another month and finally has his surgery scheduled for a year from then. Why the different treatment for the two patients? The first is a Golden Retriever; The second is a Senior Citizen.
suegha Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Now this is fantastic! It could be written of most 'advanced' countries.
PhilHarries Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Very sad but very true particularly of the UK, unless you have very good private health care, something that wasn't an option to today's average senior citizen. My old dear had to break hers to get them replaced. Now she's in a home with 24/7 care that she is, in effect, paying for as she made the mistake of living frugally and owning a house. I'm off to take my meds before I get on the soap bpx again.
