hey guys got some questions i made non O single entry in the past in Penang for visiting a child ( im married too ). My agent told me i could make a multiple entry non O.

So with a single i get 3 months + 2 months extension, if i take multiple entry can i do the same ? 3 months then 2 month extension then i do a border run ?

Or Do i have to get out of the country every 3 months ? cant just report to immigration ?

thanks

You can get a 60 day extension for every 90 day entry of a multiple entry non-o visa.

You just have to be sure your do the last entry on or before the enter before date on the visa to get another 90 day entry. You can get almost 15 months from the visa by doing that or 17 months by doing the 60 day extension of it.

You have to leave the country every 90 days unless you get the extension.

Penang is the only nearby location that will do a multiple entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai. You need to show 400k baht in a bank or income to get it.

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai in Savannakhet without financial proof.

Vientiane does not do multiple entry visas.

thanks a lot for the details ,sure about the 400K ? just read on a thread from may

The best place to apply is Penang, Malaysia. They will issue a multiple entry 1 year visa as long as you have at least 100K in the bank. No need for your family to go with you.

Anyway i will go and make the one i can do i guess :)

Yes it has changed. May of last year is a long time ago for visa requirements.

I presume you were speaking of the border checkpoints.  Do they do multiple entry visas at the consular embassy in town in Vientiane, or will they not do them there either?

Yes, the consulate is a lot busier now.   2 lines for non-immigrant, and 1 for tourists.   Not sure if they are able to accommodate same-day rush service, or what that fee would be.  You might want to push the flight back to whenever the next flight is.   Maybe you could fly to bangkok and then fly to phuket.....not sure how late flights are.  Or take minivan back if you need to return to thailand fast.  It will get you to hat yai by around 19:00....but then you are just stuck in hat yai overnight for a plane unless you want to take the bus to phuket....maybe the same in bangkok.

The train from Padang besar to Hat Yai leaves at 18:00 Malay time, but the way the Kommuter trains run from Butterworth to Padang Besar, it would be difficult to make the ferry and catch the 14:25 or 15:15 train.  You are still cutting it close, and assuming the train will be on time.

You really need to budget in an extra day, or in case of bus/minivan buy the ticket the day before.

Plus you are dealing with Chinese new year, although most of that that might be over now.

I was not writing about border checkpoints since they do not issue visas. The embassy in Vientiane will not issue a multiple entry visa of any type to a non Laotian or resident there.

You could do an out and back by air to get a visa exempt entry. The airline might ask for a ticket out of the country withing 30 days to board the return flight. You could also do a border hop at a border crossing for a 30 day entry but it would the first of 2 you can do this year.

If you got the 30 days you could extend it for 60 days to visit your wife or child.

WOW.  I had been expecting to get one there.  No idea how I'll manage to keep living in Laos.  This is insane.  Looks like Vietnam, here we come.  Thailand will get less business with this for sure, as this stops the monthly grocery runs to Nongkhai.  The trouble with Vietnam is that I have heard they made a new rule recently as well and now they do not permit any re-entry during the 30-day visa period that they earlier issued.  So if I cross into Vietnam for a Lao border run, then return to Laos and get my 30 days (counting the current one--so effectively just 29 days), I'm one short at the end of the month to be able to do the same thing again.

Sure didn't.  I'm a resident, but have no work permit.  Laos is a third-world country.  I'm working, the institution is doing everything legally, e.g. paying taxes, but we have a paperwork snafu with the government that we're trying to negotiate right now that holds up the process so that I am essentially barred from getting my work permit at this time.  The Lao government made new rules this year too that say anyone employing a foreigner must have at least 10 Lao employees per foreigner.  We don't.  This is the problem.  So, I'm an "undocumented resident."  Thailand won't care if I am living in Laos or not if I have no proof.  Furthermore, Vientiane is not issuing multiple entry visas to anyone, according to Joe.  This puts me truly in a bind between rocks and hard spots.

You could get a single entry tourist visa at the embassy in Vientiane which are free at this time. That would allow a 60 day entry that you could get a single re-entry permit for a fee of 1000 baht at the bridge so that you could do another entry from the visa. If you timed it right you could then apply for a 30 day extension (1900 baht) of the 60 day entry and get another re-entry permit for the extension and the remaining days left on the 60 day entry.

For the Vietnam problem I assume you could apply for a extension of your 30 day entry to Laos and then to do Vietnam run. Info on extension here. http://www.immigration.gov.la/d2.html

I wrote that Laotians and legal residents of Laos can get a multiple entry visa. I did not write everybody. Have you looked at the requirements for the multiple entry tourist visa. Even if you were a resident you might not qualify. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/en/news/announce/detail.php?ID=313

As I understand, Laotians need no multiple-entry visa: They're part of ASEAN.  Aside from them, it had appeared that you were indicating the embassy did not issue METVs to any "non-Laotian" including foreign residents in Laos.  I apologize if I misunderstood and misstated your thought.  Thank you for your helpfulness here.

They get a 30 day visa exempt entries due to a bilateral agreement. Being part of ASEAN makes no difference since every country has their own rules. For example Cambodians only get a 14 day entry from a bilateral agreement.

If they wanted to stay longer than 30 days at a time a METV would be a good option.
