BANGKOK — Bangkok’s governor is proposing a tenfold increase in fines and impounding vehicles for using the capital’s sidewalks.

New measure to deal with Student Loan Fund debtors

BANGKOK: -- Students who took out loans from the government’s Student Loan Fund and are now employed in government service or in private sector will, from now on, will have their monthly pay deducted at a certain amount by their employers and returned to the Fund through the Revenue Department.

Hit-and-run driver surrenders and apologises

BANGKOK: -- A hit-and-run driver who killed a road sweeper in suburban Bangkok on Sunday morning turned himself in to police at Kanna Yao district police and admitted that he had gulped seven drinks before driving and didn’t realize he had hit the sweeper.

Banks’ NPLs last year upped 40 billion baht to 382 billion baht

BANGKOK: -- Non-performing loans for commercial and state-owned banks for the year 2016 have increased by about 40 billion baht to 382 billion baht for the entire banking system, representing an increase of 11 percent compared to the NPLs of the year before.
