I have been here a while and have some big trees and have had a large family of squirrels living here for years barely even noticing them.

 

However, today there was this Godawful noise, a sort of screeching and coughing, I thought someone had run over a dog outside my place. However, when I went out to check it seemed it was a bunch of maybe 8 or 9 squirrels "rutting"  - Never heard a noise like it, like a strangled dog!

 

Unusual to find a strangled dog high up in a tree....unless I can sneak up on it with a long rope.

 

Must admit, never heard a squirrel BARK before.
