Can a Thai cross the border to Vientiane with me without a Thai passport? (Thai ID card only) for my visa run?

They can apply for a border pass that will allow them to stay for 3 days. Costs about 50 baht.

There is an office before the bridge or some travel agents can get them.

Yes went a eek ago as Joe said office before bridge last time before this cost 500bht this time 100 bht didn't ask why not worth the hassle for 50 bht.

I guess you meant through price was raised from 50 to 100 baht?

Keep in mind that the office doesn't open until 8:00am so if you're at the border at 6:00am you will be waiting around for 2 hours.

Who knows could be tea money. But for 50 bht I wasn't going to ask

Yes, but Thai immigration would probably advise against, assuming he/she has a passport but would prefer not to use it.

Things have changed here. I remember a time when Thais had to be residents of the border province they were leaving from to get a border pass.

I really don't think they care if they have a passport or not an ID card is suffice for 3 days.
