BANGKOK: -- Honda (Thailand) have announced a recall of more than 259,000 cars that need changes made to their airbags on the front  passenger side.

The recall is to do with the gas mechanism that could result in the bag bursting in an accident. Other recalls were announced for different models in recent years with the same problem, reported Manager Online.

Honda said that customers would receive free service and could take their vehicles to service centers anywhere in the kingdom.

The recall refers to the following models:

City, Jazz, Jazz Hybrid, Jazz imported from Japan, Freed - 2012 models.

Accord, Accord imported from Japan - 2012 models.

Accord 2003 -2007 models (as per a previous recall notice)

Odyssey 2004 - 2006 models.

Legend 2007 model.

Honda , Thailand must have finally got their new parts from the Airbag company

So now they can repair the affected vehicles. In Canada, I finally got the Accord fixed in December 2016,

as it took that long for Honda to get the new parts and software updates to fix the problem.

It is not always the companies like Honda, Toyota or Ford that are to blame, but the companies

that make the airbag systems, and such.

Geezer

If this is the same story from last year, when are Toyota going to man up and do some recalls? Or have they already done that?

Think so?

Toyota had recalls all over the world.

Maybe missed it, but never heard or see any recalls from Toyota in Thailand.

The reason it took that long is because in total 85.000.000 had to be recalled worldwide, as Takata supplies the airbags to almost every Japanese car manufacturer.

Honda called our Jazz in and fixed the airbag last year - all very professional

Had my civic done too....all a waste of time as my airbag sensor is faulty lol...never fixed it as the part was very expensive.

Takata air bags no doubt. Stand in line. Reading these articles just makes me thankful that I do not have a vehicle anywhere. Driving used to be such a joy but not anymore. The cars of the future will really be sophisticated I guess. Upon entry of the vehicle the vehicle no doubt with AI will say "Sit back and relax and leave the driving to me"

had mine done too, but from memory it was only the driver's side airbag. This recall is for the passenger's side.

more recalls today July 12, 2017.... in USA. and it's different this time.... a deeper safety concern that it may explode to a new level of affected vehicles.

and the recall fixes have all been "like for like" to date worldwide..... the same inflator chemical is being used as was causing the problem. because if they changed the explosive chemical it would affect the entire airbag unit design and other components such as the airbag itself.  which also gets old over time.

and... related to this as to Thailand... if Thailand is a global hub of anything.. it's on the way to being a global airbag fabric hub or maybe even airbag hub as well. afterall..... i.e. the world's biggest nylon 6,6 airbag fabric plant, as of 2014.... is located in..... Bangkok.

Thai exports of airbags and airbag components have doubled in just the last 2 years. HS code 870895XX.

Amazing Australia....... August 3, 2017.....

the Aussies are just now figuring out what the small print words "like for like" in regard to the Takata airbag recall... actually means....

and what.... it took about 5 years to do that?????

.... I don't know if it's the Queen's English or not but the word "like" can sometimes mean "similar to" as when you compare something such as the new Takata airbags.... with exactly similar, or almost exactly similar but for one of 2 or so various unproven desiccants added into the mix, or not added in at all.... to the old Takata airbag explosive formulation that is still killing people from time to time.

also about 5. or we could also say... 20 or 30 or so years later on.....

.... 'the industry is still studying the problem'..... and it may be extended to more than just the explosive compound with or without a desiccant of the same kind already being tried in some of the "like for like" airbags.....

or new airbags themselves which also get old..... or new airbags also because the configuration gets changed if they change the explosive compound, eh?

we'll know. Bangkok Thailand is home to the world's biggest nylon 6.6 automotive airbag fabric plant.... and if they start expanding as quickly as Autoliv has already been.... we're be able to tell pretty quickly. yes? it's more than a 1 billion Baht a month export market as it is already.
