No ICU School to be left behind under Thailand 4.0 policy

BANGKOK, 02 February 2017 (NNT) – One-third of about 30,000 schools in Thailand were found lagging in educational qualities and categorized by the Ministry of Education as ICU School.

Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin who visited NBT World and granted an exclusive interview to Thailand Today program said that the ICU schools project under which up to 5,000 schools have applied, compared to the originally expected 3,000 schools. ICU School signifies the bottom-up approach policy.

They notify their problems to the Ministry of Education of their needs. The education minister has been visiting the schools which may notify their problems and needs in bid to reduce inequality in educational affairs.

Meanwhile, PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) is clearly part of the ICU School project. If one participates in the PISA test, he or she will see a score range from top at over 600 marks to low at about 300. Such a gap has remained over the last 15 years. Now that the education minister has re-analyzed, he found that those ICU schools mostly located in rural areas lack resources.

He added the Thailand 4.0 policy is designed to promote human development, upgrade skills in order to move in the spectrum toward the 4.0 goal with the help of the Ministry of Education.

"ICU School signifies the bottom-up approach policy. "

Catchy phrase but what does it mean ?

"4.0 policy is designed to promote human development, upgrade skills"

How ?

Until they start talking about acceptable reading levels and math scores, all this talk is just wasting time.

Shorten the school days, burn the books, and lower the price to simply buy a degree. That will solve the problem of finding and paying for quality teachers.

The disparity in resources between schools is staggering.

Up here (Chiang Rai) a small number of government schools in the city seem very well resourced - expensive "specialised" programmes, small class sizes, a new swimming pool here, a sports centre there, air conditioned class rooms, computer rooms everywhere.

The rest of the less favoured schools, in the less wealthy areas of the city and throughout the rural areas make do with broken desks, creaking fans and 40 children in a class.

No prizes for guessing to which school the children of the influential people go to, and to which schools the resources go to...

The deficit next year will be beyond belief. They spend like drunken soldiers/sailors and still spending (high speed trains). If Harrods sold submarines and tanks that's where the boys would buy it. Only the best will do when it comes to military toys.

well all the best with....   he will replaced next year..
