Aussie Says Cheap Bangkok Surgery Left Her Disfigured

Featured Replies

Melbourne grandmother Lynda Lazaridis says cosmetic surgery in Bangkok left her with permanent scarring, loss of her breasts and nipples positioned high on her chest after she travelled to Thailand for a 60th birthday body makeover in 2022.

Ms Lazaridis told a recent 60 Minutes programme, she had lost 15kg, was experiencing back pain and had excess skin. She said a Bangkok cosmetic surgeon recommended a series of procedures intended to ease her discomfort.

"They recommended I have a butt lift, thigh lift inner and outer, liposuction, something called a reversed tummy tuck - I had no idea what that was - and arms," she said.

Surgery followed cheaper overseas quote

Ms Lazaridis said she selected the company because the operations were far cheaper than in Australia, where she said the work would have cost more than $200,000.

While discussing payment options, she alleged that the company suggested she access her Australian superannuation by claiming the surgery was treatment for a life-threatening illness, despite it not being urgent.

She said she became concerned shortly before the operation, when the surgeon asked what breast size she wanted. Ms Lazaridis said she requested C-cups.

"I woke up to no breasts. They were gone, completely gone," she said. "My nipple was up here [near my armpits], right in my face."

"Looking at yourself in the mirror every day, and seeing all those scars, it's overwhelming."

Despite further surgery and treatment, Ms Lazaridis said she still finds it difficult to cover her nipples with ordinary bras and clothing.

Doctor calls outcome "indefensible"

Dr Mark Duncan-Smith, a plastic surgeon and chairman of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Medical Association, described the outcome as "indefensible".

"She's botched, she's maimed, she's got scars for life," he said. Dr Duncan-Smith said the nipple placement was "a rookie mistake" and that attempts to correct it would create further scarring.

For foreigners considering cosmetic treatment in Thailand, the cases underline the importance of understanding exactly which procedures are being proposed, who will perform them and what follow-up care will be available after leaving the country. Lower quoted prices can be a major draw, but complex operations may require ongoing treatment if complications arise.

Second woman describes lasting injuries

The programme also reported the case of Sophie Tsivoglou, who said she had a disastrous experience with the same company in 2022, despite having had a positive result there four years earlier.

Ms Tsivoglou claimed she was unable to feel her legs afterwards and was left with unexplained scars in parts of her body not connected to her procedure.

"I've always covered myself before getting in front of a mirror," she said. "It's like I've been in a car accident and dogs have chewed me up, just taking chunks out of my body. It's just terrible."

Sorry, but chasing the fountain of youth at your age is a fool's errand... don't be deluded. However, the hospital/private clinic that sold the dream to just get money should also answer for their misdeeds. Cheap deals have a quality all of their own... stop chasing impossible things deluded grandma.

Just accept the changes ageing brings to your body, and keep yourself healthy, eating nutritious food and exercising.

And listen to good music of course.

Should have tried a head transplant instead, and then cut out the voice box.

I thought the Australian education system was supposed to be better than the US.

Yep, at 77 with 26 years in Thailand IMHO attractive internals is far more important than externals.

Although a nice fitted steak with a beer still works well!

60 years old and doing that sort of thing.

Sorry it went wrong on you.

But that was just crazy lady.

Should have just grown old gracefully.

You buy cheap, you get cheap.

Her own fault and stupidity.

I doubt the surgeon was a dermatologist with a special degree in cosmetic surgery (therefore cheap)

my mother , today shes 84

she went to Bangkok hospital for full face lift incl 2 day stay at the hospital

it was aprox 20 years ago , fabbulous reult , makes her look younger 10 years until today

cost at this time little less than 40,000 thb , today i think cost are 300k ++ far above inflation rate

today its all just overpriced buissenes from clinics to dentists , and some charlatans on too. i very wonder how people pay here for implants 60k or more , and for fillers 20.000 ( if You see the wholesale prices for korean or german implants or injections of 1mg ready to use.....you will cry if see the margens)

Well, you're not in the, grabber league obviously. Donnie is

none of the posters saw the 60 minutes report about it right...

it seems to happen a lot more... in the video, the surgeon does not even remember what cup size a patient wanted and another awoke with a severe BURN on her leg

Indeed- if my dog looked like that I would shave his ar*e and pull him around backwards!

You get what you pay for

If I was young and stupid again

I would buy a $300 leather jacket

and start a punk polka music band

called

Cheap Bangkok Surgery.

cat-nodding.gif

CHEAP Bangkok Surgery - what you had done seems complicated to me, and a cheap price would not be as important as a well know, established cosmetic surgery department. I suggest anyone seeking cosmetic surgery (boobs, nose/face, etc) to get an appointment with BK H Cosetic Surgery and get a free consult, but may have a small fee for images, tests, etc. The price you get will be similar to high end cosmetic surgery hospitals, that offer more. Don't go cheap on your health.

Agree with the first sentence, healthy internal organs trump looks every day of the week. Without health your looks and wealth mean nothing.

"Ms Lazaridis said she selected the company because the operations were far cheaper than in Australia, where she said the work would have cost more than $200,000."

Did she do reference checks on the hospital and doctor performing the operation? Did she get second, third doctor opinions from well-known Thai hospitals. While I sympathize with her situation, I still can't get out of my head she is 60 years-old and chasing the fountailn of youth. Sadly, sign of the times!

Because you pay for the skill of the person doing it. If you think you're going to self-administer 2 cc of Juverderm into your eye troughs and not go blind you've plum lost it.

I wonder how many ladies (and men) do some research / reading of the numerous reviews of past jobs before a decisionto go under the knife.

There's enough negative / very negative / horrendous reviews / photos to scare me away forever.

an injection of filler , hmm thats a complete set, and what skills ?? a 3 day course ??? oh yes in thai they reuqierd byy law, to be a medical person

i compare only the price to other simmilar countrys like vietnam or turkey

even my girlfirend thai , she makes 5 implants over the years in Turkey and cost was 1/3 of what quoted in thailand at a clinic. ohh and lifetime guarantee on material , and its from korea implant ( avarge implant * +crown 350 euro or 15000..no pay for checkups,no pay for xrays no pay any extra...today little more i think now 450-500 euro)
