Suspects wanted for murder of Brit in Pattaya believed to be hiding in Sihanoukville

SIHANOUKVILLE: -- The search for two men wanted for the murder of a British man in Pattaya last week is currently underway in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

 

On Thursday, Sihanoukville immigration police made a public appeal for information as to the whereabouts of the two suspects.

 

The appeal followed a formal request from the authorities in Thailand for information on the pair, it was revealed on Thursday.

 

“There was a request submitted to us asking for cooperation,” said Chhay Sinarith, deputy commissioner of the Cambodia’s National Police told the Cambodia Daily.

 

Last week, police in Thailand identified South African Abel Caldeira Bonito, 23, and Briton Miles Dicken Turner, 27, as the prime suspects in the murder of Tony Kenway, 39, who was shot in the head while sitting in his car outside the Sanit Sports Club in Pattaya on January 24.

 

The incident, which took place at around 10:30am was captured on CCTV. The gunman, who police believe to be Abel Caldeira Bonito, was seen walking away from the scene to a waiting motorcycle, allegedly driven by Miles Dicken Turner.

 

Police say the men fled to Cambodia just hours after the murder, leaving Thailand at the Hat Lek border crossing in Trat.

 

Officials in Cambodia now believe the two men could be hiding out in Sihanoukville, where Mr Bonito is reported to have links, having previously worked in bars in the resort town.

 

On Thursday, Nop Sambo, a Sihanoukville immigration police officer, also made an appeal on Facebook to Sihanoukville residents for information on the whereabouts of Mr Bonito and Mr Turner.

 

“Need all of you to cooperate with the information that involves with two of these men specifically where the place of their accommodation,” read a post alongside images of the wanted men.

 

Police in Thailand have said the motive for the murder was likely to be the result of Mr Kenway’s business dealings.

 

The Sun newspaper in the UK previously reported that Mr Kenway, who was originally described as website designer, had been involved in a number of companies offering bogus investments to UK and Australian expats in Thailand and had links to foreign “boiler room gangs” operating in Pattaya and Bangkok.

 

It was following a falling a fallout with members of one of the boiler room gangs, who Kenway claimed owed him 8 million baht, that he went to the police in Thailand in order to have his cohort arrested.

 

The Sun also reported that Mr Kenway had himself been in trouble with the police for working illegally in the kingdom and operating an illegal gambling website.

If they put as much effort into locating the suspects as they did in chasing Laos for political opponents, the suspects might have already been returned to Thailand.  My guess is that they have already fled Cambodia as well.

Well he is exhausting himself sitting at his desk on Facebook apparently.

This whole story is so odd. They kill some guy in broad daylight and with nothing covering their faces. They abscond to Cambodia and seemingly just sit back and relax. What was their plan from the beginning? They don't seem too concerned about being caught. None of this makes sense because no one could possibly be this stupid. We've all seen enough movies to know how to at least make an effort/attempt to kill someone and get away with it. 

is it now likely these two subjects may be flagged by Interpol at this point making it difficult for them to cross borders? Seems like the next logical step if not done already.

He went to the police to have someone arrested for keeping money he had conned others out of?

This is what I was thinking. Snookyville is obviously where they first went last week. Its the closest thing to Pats. Now that Interpol are involved they will have to stay put or cross a border illegally which is possible as well for anyone determined. They can only live off cash now and the question is what do they do when this runs out. If you are reading this message (dumb and dumber) from Cambodia good luck to you both....

How can you know if Interpol is involved? Seems Interpol didn't care about Thaksin's fugitive status while he wandered the globe....but he's not wanted for murder.

No, he is wanted by an opposition party on a baseless charge, no way will interpol ever act on a politically motivated allegation, if they ever went down that route anywhere with any similar case, they could start a civil war.

i thought he was convicted and sentenced by a criminal court to a two year jail term. That makes him a fugitive from justice, probably his name was not put on Interpol's watchlist?

If you recall, it only takes about 10,000 baht to enter Thailand without a passport.  The guys manning immigration are the swamp.

Being fingered by Interpol they would be on their web site.

Perhaps the Cambodian Police might help if you ask nicely, last time I was there Thailand wasn't in their good books, they ref to Thailand as war mongers on our borders...........................................

TS is wanted to serve a 2 year jail term laid out by the courts,not an opposition party.This is the 1st of many.While the authorities probably don,t really want him back he will never be back.Time spent does not re-write history.He should have been done on the satellite sale deal.

He is a (civilian) politician, twice elected and thrown out of office by a military coup.
Thailand is currently ruled by a junta imposed by another military coup. There have been several somewhat suspicious deaths in custody whilst this junta has been in power, and they have just instituted the death penalty for corruption.

It really doesn't matter how much he is loathed here on TVF, or what he has or is alleged to have done, Interpol won't touch him, it's political. And even if they were to do so, then no court in the free world would sanction his extradition.
Anyway I very much doubt the Junta want him back here. Imprisoned he would be a focus for opposition. Dead ( and the temptation to kill him would likely be irresistible for some) he would light a fire which they probably couldn't control.

"WANTED BY THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES OF (Member country-Thailand) FOR PROSECUTION / TO SERVE A SENTENCE"

If thailand issued a red notice for Thaksin...a member country would arrest and ship him back to the requesting interpol member country.

 

thats how he could be judicially removed from fugitive flight and sent back to Thailand....
