BANGKOK, 8 February 2017 (NNT) – The Cabinet has agreed to keep December 5 of every year as a national holiday while approval was granted to the extension of measures to attract foreign tourists. 

At Government House, Assistant Government Spokesman Col Athisit Chainuwat revealed that the Cabinet has acknowledged the Prime Minister’s designation of the 5th of December as the birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the National Day and the National Father’s Day in accordance with the royal mandate. In memory of the beloved King, the Cabinet also resolved to continue to observe the day as a public holiday. 

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said the Cabinet also agreed to her ministry’s proposal to extend tourism promotion measures, which were due to expire on February 28, by another six months. 

The measures include a visa fee waiver for applicants at Thai embassies and consulates as well as the reduction of Visa on Arrival fees for tourists from 22 countries.

BANGKOK: -- The cabinet on Tuesday acknowledged the prime minister’s endorsement of a Royal Command designating December 5 of every year as a Day of National Importance in remembrance of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

 

Government assistant spokesman Col Athisit Chainuwat said December 5 is a day of importance because it coincides with the late King’s birthday, the National Father’s Day and the National Day.

 

Meanwhile, the cabinet resolved to make December 5 a public holiday.

Good to see this.  However, what about Constitution Day (10 December)?  I mean, what's the point of it anymore, really?
