Cabinet acknowledges Aviation Industry Development Plan

BANGKOK, 8 February 2017 (NNT) – The Cabinet has acknowledged the Aviation Industry Development Plan to support maintenance and production of aircraft parts in Thailand, which is expected to reduce 6.5 billion baht from annual maintenance costs within 30 years.

Assistant to Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) disclosed that the cabinet’s meeting has acknowledged the Ministry of Transport’s Aviation Industry Development Plan which is one of the S-Curve businesses development model as proposed by the ministry.

The Ministry of Transport has prepared a development plan for the aircraft maintenance center and the aircraft parts manufacturing industry from 2017 to 2032, which will establish Thailand as ASEAN's aviation industry hub and aircraft maintenance center.

The development plan is expected to generate revenues worth over 10 billion baht, create jobs for 7,615 workers, and reduce the cost of annual maintenance by 6.5 billion baht within 30 years.

Acknowledge and dream on......

A hub for fake/copy parts?

I remember that under Thaksin they tried very hard to win the contract for an Airbus maintenance bas at Khon Kaen. Airbus decided on Singapore. Xiamen has also a major maintneance base used by many 3rd parties.

Singapore has been investing in aviation MRO for 20 years. All the major airframe manufacturers plus first and second tier suppliers have facilities there. I suspect it will be a difficult uphill effort to get these same companies to create duplicate capabilities just 2 hours away. Thailand will need to come up with significant benefits...  and a trained workforce ... to overcome Singapore.

and I thought I was delusional.
