Hello Forum,

I'll be headed to Savanaket next month for my first Non-o based on marriage.

I am currently in Thailand, so do I need to fly to Lao, or can I just cross by land border?

Would I still be able to get the visa if my wife has not changed her name on her house book and ID card?

Does my name need to be on the her house book?

I won't have the 400,000 seasoned at the end of my 90 days. Can I get an extension or do I have to leave the country again?

When I leave the country again on my non-o can I do a regular visa run by land border, or do I need to fly out?

You can cross at the bridge in Mukdahan to apply for the non-o visa.

There is no requirement for your wife to of changed her name.

You name cannot be  in her house book. Only signed copies of her house book registry and ID card is needed.

If you get a single entry non-o visa you would have to leave the country at the end of 90 days unless you apply for a one year extension or a 60 day extension to visit your wife to get a new non-o visa. If you get a multiple entry non-o visa you would need to leave the country to get a new 90 day entry.

You can leave and re-enter the country by land, sea or air to get a new 90 day entry if you have a multiple entry non-o visa.

Your wife's maiden name is on the marriage certificate so no problem as it will match the name on her ID and house book.

You can get one 60 day extension. After that you have to apply for a 1 year extension of stay or leave the country.

If you have a Multiple Entry Non 'O' visa you can do border hops at most border crossings every 90 days.

Can I get I multiple entry on my first attempt, even if I can't show the funds?

Yes. You can get either a single (2,000 baht) or multiple (5,000 baht) entry visa with the same documents and no financials.

A ME visa is valid for unlimited entries for one year. You can only stay for a maximum of 90 days per entry, and can apply for a 60 day or 1 year extension at the end of any 90 day entry.

You only need to have 400K in the bank for 2 months if applying for a 1 year extension at your local immigration office.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you could only extend a 90 day entry once by 60 days when married to a Thai.

Not every 90 day entry.

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:

Permission shall be granted for one time and no more than 60 days.

(1) There must be proof of relationship. (2) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto.

I read it as you can only be issued one extension and then have to leave the country.  You cannot get back-to-back extensions without leaving the country.

At least I hope that's the case as I will be applying for a non-o multiple entry visa this week and plan on using the extensions.

Hopefully someone with some experience in this can chime in.

That means only one 60 day extension per entry. Not only one forever.
