BANGKOK — A member of the national broadcasting regulatory agency said it is undermining its own credibility by repeatedly going after media for criticizing the military regime.

Supinya Klangnarong, a free speech advocate and member of the National Broadcasting and Communications Commission, warned that the agency is limiting expression by invoking a junta order to muzzle broadcasters for criticizing the military government.

I wonder how long they will allow her to remain in the NBCT.....

She is right, but Thailand is so bad now compared to the rest of the world, it desperately needs improvement.  It ranks 136th in the world.  It has little credibility now.

You can't loose, what you ain't got

One of the few ppl in Thailand I can really admire for standing up for what she believes in rather than kowtowing to those in power - she stood up to Thaksin as well, beating him in court.

I appreciate Supinya's advocacy for freedom of speech in broadcast media but ultimately her undoubtedly minority viewpoints within the NTBC are irrelevant and thus, ineffective.

In 2016 the independent telecom regulator NTBC was placed under the new Digital Economy Commission chaired by the Prime Minister Prayut. https://www.telegeography.com/products/commsupdate/articles/2016/04/25/act-reduces-thai-regulators-autonomy-dtac-abstains-from-900mhz-re-auction/

Since then NTBC as a whole has repeatedly shown a willingness to adhere to Prayut's policy of censorship.
