webfact
Playboy brings back nudity, claiming #NakedIsNormal Playboy magazine has announced it is bringing back nudity, reversing a decision made last year. The move was announced by Playboy's new chief creative officer Cooper Hefner, who said the decision to remove nudity entirely "was a mistake". "Today we're taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are," he tweeted. The US magazine also promoted its March-April edition with a picture of its playmate of the month with the hashtag #NakedIsNormal. Kerryd
Their justification for removing nudity last year was that it was so easily accessible on the internet it didn't make sense to publish it in a magazine. They thought their brand name and no nudity would be enough to compete with rags like Maxim and FHM. No doubt their subscriptions and newstand sales dropped through the basement, much to the delight of Penthouse, Hustler and the like. Playboy was always the "classy" men's magazine and many top rated stars have posed for them as well as many women who went on to become stars after "being discovered" by them. The other mags tended to be more "raunchy" and downright crass and don't usually attract the same level of celebrities. Yeah, there's a ton of nudity on the 'net but for every authentic picture there's probably 200+ fakes. At least with Playboy you know you are going to get quality pictures of gorgeous women to go along with the other top rated content (after all, everyone only looks at playboy "for the articles") ! I've found that Playboy often has very excellent reviews on the latest "gadgets" as well as TVs, stereo systems, cars books and movies to go along with (usually) very well done interviews with assorted personalities, excerpts from books and/or short stories, cartoons and (naturally) 3-4 photo spreads. They should have never even thought about going to a non-nude format, especially while Hef is still alive ! Sheesh, I'm surprised that decision didn't send him over the edge ! Ulysses G.
Removing the naked photos was a mistake. However, personally, I bought it for the articles.
ddavidovsky
It's all part of the Trump effect - society readjusting back to less PC values. It was necessary. Now they just need to bring back pubes.

It is the fairy tale religions that have foisted an unnatural sense of shame on people over nudity for millenia.
webfact
Playboy brings back nudes, a year after ditching them REUTERS LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Playboy magazine is returning to its roots, bringing nudes back just a year after abandoning full frontal shots of women saying they had become outdated. Under the headline "Naked is Normal," the magazine will bring nude pictorials back in its March/April edition, the company said on Monday. “I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem,” Playboy’s chief creative officer Cooper Hefner said in a statement on the magazine's website. "Today we're taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are," added Hefner, the son of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson was the last person to bare it all for the magazine in its January/February 2016 edition. Founded in 1953, Playboy had decided to stop publishing nude photos of women, saying they had become outmoded due to the plethora of free pornography on the internet. Playboy's circulation has dropped from about 5.6 million in 1975 to around 800,000 in recent years, and the magazine had also come under pressure from women to end a practice many found offensive and degrading. It launched a revamped version in March 2016 in which it replaced full frontal nudity with flirty, more natural shots of women in scanty attire. Cooper Hefner said on Monday that the magazine was also bringing back some of its other features, including "Party Jokes" and "The Playboy Philosophy" column that last appeared in the 1960s. He said the upcoming issue was a "reflection of how the brand can best connect with my generation and generations to come." The famed Playboy Mansion near Los Angeles, Hugh Hefner's home and the venue for his lavish, hedonistic parties in the 1960s and 70s, was sold for $100 million in August in a deal that allowed Hefner, 90, to continue living there for the remainder of his life. thaibeachlovers
Seems that some people can't tell the difference between pornography and erotica. It's women saying naked pics of women is degrading that is stupid and PC. Playboy has never published pornography. IMO, while the pics of naked women did attract men to buy the magazine, it was the excellent articles that kept them buying.
boomerangutang
There's nudity at my house. I lay around nude on my sun porch. Anyone interested in watching? Didn't think so. Hefner became a millionaire selling sex, Trump became a millionaire selling drugs (vodka). What else is new?
