Discussion held to draft legislation for Thai herbal medicine

BANGKOK, 14 February 2017 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly’s (NLA) committee on commerce, industry and labor has held a discussion with the Federation of Thai Industries’ Herbal Industry Group on development of the Thai herbal sector.

Meeting at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok, the committee convened its meeting in acknowledgement that while Thai herbs and traditional remedies are a major part of the nation’s culture and economy, they lack formal regulation and appropriate legislation.

Currently, Thai herbal remedies and treatments are controlled by general legislation to do with pharmaceuticals and medicine, which in many cases do not respond to the unique aspects of the field.

The meeting, which invited members of the press and representatives of the public and private sectors to express their views, focused on what is needed to draft legislation on Thai herbal treatment to efficiently and appropriately oversee the sector. It is hoped that better regulation of Thai herbs will also allow their full economic potential to be realized on the global stage.

The legalising and decriminalizing of the herb marijuana would benefit not only the sufferer's of pain but the tourist industry alike. Come on Prayuth be a popular PM and do it. Use article 44.

The tourist industry needs it
