Coldfusion Programming Work In Thailand

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is much demand for Coldfusion programmers in Thailand? It's fairly common in western countries but seems to be less in demand in Asia.

I am soon to complete a Masters in IT in Australia and have other web programming skills (PHP/MySQL, ASP.NET, Java) but my main tool is Coldfusion on a MS SQL Server database.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated! :o

Simple answer : No

PHP for the low end here , Java & ASP.Net for the high end.

Note, you'll be taking a gigantic paycut from Oz rates to work here as a programmer.

Cold Fusion simply is obsolete, for the most part cheaper to hire thai(s) do most programing. :o

I used cold fusion back in 2000 for large project I was doing in the USA even THEN I rarely found good cold fusion programmers and when I did they were twice the price because there were so few of them. I wouldn't consider hiring anyone or working on any project that required it unless it was twice my going price.. if you came to Thailand and wanted to program in it.... you would be one of a VERY small group of people which in some cases would be good for you.. as you could charge more... but before coming find your gig via the net ... who knows.. there might be some poor souls still using this piece-o-<deleted> software..

E-Z: Do your web programming for the ppl back home. Get a job in Oz that allows you to work from Thailand. You can offer better rates (lower cost of living) and still net more... Unless you need the work permit for some reason...

I totally agree that ColdFusion is a bit of a niche market but having programmed in some of the other languages (albeit not extensively), I do find CF to be a very fast development tool. Having said that i am trying to get into more .NET work to broaden my skillset.

In any case, thank you all for your insights and opinions! Let's not start a whole debate on the merits of CF here. Nikster, you are totally right about the idea of working out of thailand for folks back home. I'd been toying with that idea myself. Been checking out the legal/tax issues regarding that. Perhaps someone could shed some light on that issue? Surely there must be people out there doing it.

Cheers!
