I soon need to renew my retirement extension but my passport expires in August.

Last time this happened it wasn't an issue as they first gave me till August, and in August they stamped the remaining months in my new passport.

Is this still possible or has something changed?

Not possible anymore since quite long.

You would get an extension until August (expiry date) and then do a completely new application with your new passport.

Thanks, last time was 2012.

So that means twice all the paperwork and twice 1900 Baht?

Will get my new passport first then, but it's quite a disadvantage, because our passports are only 5 year of which I will now lose another 6 months

I have the same issue, except that I'm losing 11 months.
First get new passport, after that get the extension.

I just did my retirement extension.

Passport is a long way off expiring however it is almost full with just a few pages blank.

I asked the senior IO what happens if I get a new passport.

She told me just come in an we will transfer your stamp over to you new passport.

Different story. Not what the OP asks about.

Existing/valid extensions are transferred to new passport.

Same to me last year.

Had extension until October. Passport valid till March.

Got me new passport in July and let the stamps transfer.

Then before October applied for new extension stamped in new passport.

Lost 8 months of pp validity.

Fortunately it's a 10 yr validity.

But will not your country add the unexpired period of your existing passport to the lifetime of its replacement?

My country does not, do you know of any countries that do that?

The UK does. I think it's up to 9 months added. So a UK passport which is valid for 10 years could in fact become 10yrs and 9 months if you had up to 9 months left on your previous passport and applied for a new one.

Just checked, you're right, the UK is an exception on this. Up to 9 months can be added.

FYI  I also am curious about banking and getting a new passport:

Why?

You got excellent advice on your other thread on this.

WRT passport - mine was under 6 months and that was added to the term of the new passport in BKK - but 5 years ago.
