Thailand scraps plans to track foreign tourists with SIM cards

Had they gone through with this stupidity, would they have forced a foreigner arriving without a phone to buy one?

And what exactly would have stopped that foreigner from throwing the SIM card away as soon as he left the airport?

And replacing it with one bought for them by a local at 7/11?

Just as well they woke up and realised it was as stupid an idea as Donalds wall that the mexicans won't pay for.

Common sense finally prevailing. It was a pointless exercise anyway. Any person intending to do something dodgy would simply get a Thai to buy a SIM for them, so easily circumvented.

Very little gain for much expense and inconvenience.

I was a little surprised such a dumb idea got off the ground in the first place.

But this is how it works here. Dumb and very stupid ideas get off the ground daily, and with such frequency that soon, they need to draft an arrival and departure schedule for these dumb and stupid ideas!

I far preferred the idea many months ago that tourists should wear ankle/wrist bracelets (to track them down if they had an unfortunate end) or a 'personal' guide .

All they have to do is follow the bread crumb trail of empty Chang bottles from Pattaya to the newish house in Issan.
