Industrial confidence down in Jan on economic uncertainties

BANGKOK, 23 February 2017 (NNT) – The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has reported a decrease in the Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) in January as a result of both internal and external factors, in contrast to the car production figure.

According to Vice Chairman of the FTI Suparat Sirisuwannangkura, the January TISI stood at 87.2, edging down from 88.5 recorded in December 2016. The fall reflected worries among entrepreneurs about fluctuations in the world economy and currency exchange rates, rising oil prices and the trade policy of US President Donald Trump. At home, operators in the South were also concerned with impacts from the flood crisis, which has pulled down orders, sales and production.

Nonetheless, the sentiment for the next three months adjusted up slightly, thanks to public spending and investment, an uptrend in agricultural prices, healthy domestic consumption and investment expansion among operators.

In the automotive sector, a total of 152,261 cars were produced in January, increasing by 3.12 percent year-on-year and 12.13 percent month-on-month. Following signs of economic recovery, several companies have debuted their new models of passenger cars, of which 36 percent are to be sold domestically.

See there is a silver lining in everything. You just have to have the old Thai mojo looking ahead and rubbing amulets. The good ole consumer will come through yet again. All he needs is a money transfusion and his lines flushed and a friendly bank manager and he is spendworthy once again.

If this whole concoction was ever put on paper it would look like a cross walk here freshly painted.

Having just been voted the World's worst for traffic, the only thing to brag about in the Thai economy is the production of more cars for the domestic market.

So the Vice Chairman of the FTI Suparat Sirisuwannangkura has fessed up that things in Thailand are not so good after all. To be sure he will be dragged away for re-education.

I believe that in 2017, the errant monk will be imprisoned for life, that road accidents will be halved, the Thai baht will remain strong, the economy will expand by no less than 5% and that the elections will be totally impartial and held before the end of the year.

By the way, I am writing this from my cell in a 300 year-old hospital for the criminally Insane in Bangkok .

Yesterday, a social worker came to visit me and I pleaded with her that I was NOT insane and was in here by mistake and implored her to help me get out.  She was very sympathetic and said she would do all that she could to get the terrible injustice reversed and get me released as soon as possible.  As she was going out the gate, she was hit on the head by half a brick and she turned to see me waving through the bars at the window of my cell,  shouting "Don't forget!"
