Defiant Dhammakaya followers detained

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Police and soldiers today detained 26 defiant followers of the stubborn abbot Phra Dhammachayo after they obstructed authorities to enter Dhammakaya temple to search for him.

 

 They were all sent to Klong Luang police station pending interrogation and prosecution.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, meanwhile, said the detention of the 26 followers was made as they obstructed authorities to conduct search.

 

He affirmed that the authorities have to perform their duties to enforce the law in making arrest while assuring that no violent force was used .

 

He also rejected call by defiant monks and followers to lift Section 44 that declared the temple a special zone for control.

Drop the police/army in by helicoptor with tear gas canisters, and clear the temple of all monks and followers. Then get on with the search. Only allow people back once the rogue monk has been found, dead or alive!

this can be a tourist venue, bus loads of curious chinese...great entertainment value.

He's not in there dingleberry.

Really? The authorities certainly haven't had the opportunity to search all 2,300 rai yet. The monks won't allow it.

What could they be hiding that they don't want the public to see?

After all, if they have nothing to hide why resist a search for someone accused of serious embezzlement, land encroachment,etc.

Your suggestion sounds like a great way to make a serious situation even worse.

 

I am not a fan of the police or military, but I believe they are taking the correct approach in this instance. They are unarmed, only detaining people who resist, and slowly achieving their purpose (searching the area in an organised manner). So what if it drags on for weeks - it's not as if the military/police would be doing anything more important.

 

The moment that the authorities get too heavy handed or some Monk gets killed or seriously injured the lid could blow off. If things get violent the police/military will issue arms. Thai history tells us that, after that, it will just be a matter of the body count.

As you have seen by the post you quoted on above, it's not what they are hiding, it's what they are protecting.

Protecting from the public's gaze more like. Perhaps they don't want the public to see just how opulent and luxurious their temple is.

Their opulence has been in full view of the public for years. It's not like the 2,000 rai, extravagant buildings and golden statues have been hidden. That's what attracts many followers to them. It will all be confiscated, melted down and sold off before a judge has even sounded the hammer. Why do you ever think any of these  cases are about morality/corruption ? ?
