Temple disciples seek help from UN

By The Nation

Dhammakaya Temple disciples plan to file a complaint with the United Nations (UN) against the government for implementing the junta’s all-powerful Article 44 to declare the temple compound a controlled area, Phra Sanitwong Chareonrattawong, the communication chief of the temple, said Thursday.

As the huge search operation at the temple entered its eighth day yesterday, police were still unable to find former abbot Phra Dhammachayo, despite an enormous police presence, numerous negotiations, a threat to cut power and water and the authority’s strict screening of visitors in and out of the compound.

At around 6am, 50 troops demolished a barrier that had been set up to block a gate near the Boon Raksa building, where they believed the fugitive monk was hiding. But the move to enter the compound only led to a confrontation and tussle between troops and some 500 disciples and monks.

I love the two extremes. "Foreigners stay out of our business. This is Thailand for Thais!" The other extreme "Please help us,  farangs".

I say 'farangs' because that's who most of them envisage helping them.

I suspect the UN would be in favor of upholding the law

There is a simple solution, vacate the premises and let the police do their job

Would be great to read the UN telling them to obey the Thai laws...

And if the monk pops up in another country i hope they check all his papers well.

What else are they hiding besides the Phra Dhammachayo , maybe  a huge cache of arms if so I hope they are found and they  explain that to the UN.

Hmm, this is really a "Catch 22" as they don't want to follow the law in the first place and then they want the law to protect them for not following the law. And let's face it, all it had take for the police to not entering the temple ground was that the former "abbot" acknowledged the charges against him and answered the questions from DSI A year ago... these followers are either brainwashed or just plain stupid!

Or just telling them: farang no undastaaand....

Why the government not close up the Temple: no electricity, no water, no food...and just wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the middle age  castles been surrounded and it worked well like that.....i am sure it still works:-))

You know the end is nigh in a Thai power struggle when one side appeals for the white man's assistance. It is the last (and hopeless) resort.

I recall Thaksin writing a letter requesting for help from the U.S. President and the UN just before the first coup.

Off topic trolling posts and replies have been removed, this is not about Trump.

The solution to all this is fairly simple and if the UN says anything different it will raise the ire of a lot of people.

Hand over everyone that the police want.  Let the justice system do it's thing and end the BS.

I think the problem here is that those in power just like some of the religious organizations in the days of Jim and tammy Fay are worried that someone is going to see the real books and the world is going to fall apart

What a load of c..p, anything but accept that the former abbot and many temple officials were involved in illegal activities.

My Thai wife does not put enough marmalade on my toast, i will have to get the UN involved  :cheesy:

Now that is just how senseless all this temple nonesense is.

How utterly predictable!!!!!!!!!!

This man is reasonably intelligent. When the case first came up why did he not tell the authorities that the Credit Union man made a large cash donation and he did not know its source. Prove otherwise. And pass out a few envelopes. Maybe he had a bad case of omnipotentcy set in.

I would say just plain stupid.

Delusional.

Both.

Most of us thought that they lived in a fantasy world of their own and this appeal to the UN just proves it.
