Policemen attending a meeting were made to undergo urine tests for drug use

BANGKOK: -- About 50 police officers attached to the 8th division of Metropolitan Police Bureau were caught by a surprise when they were unexpectedly told that they would have their urines tested.

The meeting was chaired by Pol Maj-Gen Samrith Tongtao, commander of the 8th division of the MPB. As he was addressing his men, a group of policemen in charge of urine testings marched into the meeting room with one carrying a cardboard box containing small plastic bottles to contain urine samples.

Then the attending police officers were told by Pol Maj-Gen Samrith that they would have their urines tested to find out any of them were tested positive with illicit drug use or not. The tests were however negative.

He then told his men that the tests were not intended to find fault with any of them, but it was the policy initiated by Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, the MPB commissioner, after several policemen were caught to be implicated in illegal drug trade.

How does trading in illegal drugs require someone to be a drug user?

Does a car salesman have to own a car?

No, but they tend to get to "use" the stock at nights and weekends for free.

Whatever next? Policemen with cardboard boxes handing out small plastic bottles to new arrivals at Swampy immigration?

"The test were not intended to find fault" but what if they did?

Did not know that urine had a plural.

Live and learn.

Or not in this case.

You notice no mention of what drug was tested for nor how many knew of the plan ahead of the meeting. How many no shows were not in attendance? What time of the day did the meeting take place, a lot more info could have real crediability to the bib effort to police their own.

I would suspect that there will be a lot of BIB with brown underpants, should they widen this practice across the force nationally.

Advance warning.

It's getting closer to 1st April, so lots of rehearsal required for the main events.

If testing of the public is good, testing of the police is doubly good.

Expect 99% no show at the next meeting...

I wished I was there to see if your saying this with a straight face. They are constantly being UPDATED on everything wink wink.

Perhaps in the same odd way that faeces doesn't have a singular.

Great publicity stunt. RTP needs a more sophisticated approach, however, to overcome the almost daily unplanned. spontaneous stupidity of illegal acts of members of various ranks across Thailand reported via organised media and social media networks.  Credibility is a precious resource for any public organisation yet it is abused regularly here. Why?

Not a bad idea

Good publicity stunt.

The 2 members of the RTP who passed the test have been moved to inactive posts.
