retirmenet extension back to tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi

My retirement extension expires 28/may  and im going away for 6 months but the flight leaves 6/june

So there is a gap of around 10 days. Do i have to leave the country on 28/may or is there some way to extend?

There is no extension you can get other than 7 days to leave the country after applying for an extension and paying 1900 for it.

If you were married to a Thai or had a Thai child you could apply for a 60 day extension to visit them.

Ok thanks

A day trip to Cambodia may do the trick......................

Even though you're going to be out of the country for 6 months you could still apply for a one year extension of stay (Retirement) before May 28th.  If you also buy a re-entry permit (1,000 Baht) the remainder or your one year extension will still be good when you come back.

Given the frequency of changes to visa rules, extending your current stay might allow you to be "grandfathered" in, under existing rules, saving you from to any changes in the rules, of which we are not yet aware, which could come into force during your time out of the country.  That's what I'd do.  1900 Baht is cheap insurance.
